Do you play chess?

I haven’t played chess in like 10 years. And I played my nephew for the first time yesterday. Needless to say I got destroyed. It was quite sad. Haha!

It just makes me wonder though. How often do the rest of you play chess. Do you enjoy the game?

I used to play a lot but not so much anymore.

I enjoy it once in a while.

I can’t sit still long enough for a game of chess.

I don’t really like chess, lol…

My history with it was: didn’t know how to play

then, learned somewhat,

but always played “decoratively.”

Later: decoratively-offensively,

and I never learned a successful offensive maneuver.

I don’t really like how it’s all predictable…

they know what I’m after.. I can’t pretend lol

and I can go sideways if I wish, but it’s all pretty much- how do I say, straightforward.

I never liked my opponents to “see” me head on, and I’m more of a creative mind than a “routine-formula” kind of gal.

Needless to say, Queen of Katwe is a GREAT movie. 👐😩😂

To mention- there is no such thing as ‘defense’ lol they will ultimately sacrifice in the beginning, and much of it will go to the pawns, and once those “waste away,” it will be their main crew vs your main crew. All just a matter of time.

I spent so much of my time in the earlier moments of the game “setting up” my army, meanwhile they were advancing (whoever my opponent was/ or could be), and I’d never get to finish my line of “men/women” because by the time it was their turn again, they’d have taken out one of my barricades and penetrated my defenses, essentially, so I’m like, thinking at this point:

well why tf am I sending them out there? They have no armaments! Tf?
sending my men out blindly? This dude over here just swallowed Tim!
lol

So yeah, “game of choices,” but set choices.. and I’m not a fan, I couldn’t do it MY way.. with finesse.

That’s how you got someone like me…

somewhat an over thinker at times..

getting beat by my idiot-friends, who never should’ve made it passed certain grades, let alone certain class subjects lol

I despise it.

Some will ask me, “wow you’re pretty smart. You ever play chess?”

and I’m like- NO

I WILL NEVER EVER PLAY CHESS AGAIN SUSAN!

I honestly just couldn’t Focus enough to get a defense set up. My while my brother (the one I played against most) would always destroy any thing I tried to set up while building his own perfect and impenetrable defense. It drove me bonkers.

They should at least allow for the players to set it up as they want and THEN start the game. Like half of it is truly wasted in trying to build FOR. REAL. 🤘😂😭

@Rosexøxø I think they do in the more strategic games. Like I’m a halfwit I don’t have the patience or mind to set up a defense or to see a good defense until I am already in trouble. So it never happens in games i played but I watched several of my brothers games where the first ten or so moves were just dedicated to the players setting themselves up.

Haha! Thank you miss Rose! You are quite right of course. And I have found that I am much more Intelligent as I have grown up. Things i never thought possible for my “weak” mind have become increasingly easy and second nature. The key is fake it until you make it and don’t be afraid to ask questions!

First option, love the game. I don't mean to sound as though I'm bragging, but no one (and I mean absolutely no one) has beaten me in literally years. Some of the stories I could tell, LOL.

For example, there was this one guy who was really cocky, thought he was Kasparov or Fischer or something, but I beat him three times straight. He almost started to cry, and his girlfriend was there to comfort him. It was SO funny :D

Then when he finally did win, due to a stupid mistake I made that cost me my Queen, he actually took a photo of the chessboard to send to his friends! :D

I do not like playing humans for two reasons:

Chess is a zero-sum game, so, unless the game is a draw, either:

1. I lose and that makes me feel bad.
OR
2. I win and I've made someone else feel bad.

Thus, I play machines only. I don't feel so bad when I lose and I hurt no one when I win.

No I feel fhst! There is SO much I would rather do. But this was a nephew that I haven’t been able to do a lot of fun with either because I’m supper busy or because he has two sisters who he loves and allowed to talk over him all the time. It was really nice to have a game that was just us two for a change.

Yes I do play but not as often as I used too. I really have not gotten involved in this areas chess club and circuit. Meetup has contacts like that if you are a serious player returning to the game after extended break. Enjoy the return to the game...

Yeah i played with my nephew 10 years old after long time first two games i won but he gave high competetition the next two he won i wa like what just happened 😂.

Then started playing and started winning multiple games that he quit playing with me lol sour looser 🤣

I used to play with my Dad and brother frequently they still play on weekends. I did play a speed chess game last weekend that was fun. I hadn't played in a year or so. I might play next weekend too.

I enjoy it but haven't played too much recently. I also really enjoy watching vloggers/streamers playing it with commentary.

I would love to learn new techniques/tactics and some book openings but haven't really come around to it.. but never say never.

I also love the different designs of chess sets like beautifully designed and crafted wooden chess sets/pieces.
