I used to play frequently. Learning to play chess are some of the few positive memories I have of my father. It’s difficult for me to find people to play with though. Only one of my friends actively plays chess, but it gets pretty old playing against just him because we both know each others thought process so well we usually know what the other persons planning before they even make their move. Couple that with the fact that neither of us has ever had more than a 2 game lead ver the other and it gets a little dull. It’s pretty much an every other process between the two of us.

I used to play a lot online on Yahoo chess and got over 2500 FIDE rating there (GM), but I've heard that online ratings are very unreliable. Like I heard someone say that they had 2300 online but only around 1500 UCF. So probably I'm not all that good in real life. These days I tend to find it somewhat stressful, maybe because I used to take it so seriously and would read all sorts of books on chess strategies.
I started switching to Poker and found it a lot more fun with more economic incentives since I make some modest money at it.
I play it, but I don't know any techniques. The most "advanced" thing I've ever done is castling.

Awesome! I don't think I'd win a game of chess against myself

I love chess! But I haven't played in a while because nobody I know would actually play and I'm not interested in online chess.
My big brother taught me how to play when I was little. He always won, but I loved every minute of it, and he was always nice without patronizing me or being condescending. We would also do Snap Circuits, and he would ask "hand me this" or "put this back there for me, willya?" Great brother.
I love playing chess. I used to play a lot with my grandfather but he lived in a different city so we were only able to play when I visited him or he visited me. I also joined a chess club one summer. I don't play chess anymore because I don't have anyone to play it with. Maybe I'll join another club some day. 😄
The gender disparity in the comments is interesting, though not surprising-- almost all guys playing chess, or having played it in the past. And almost all girls having little or no interest in it. That said, I know girls who play chess, and they're the last kind of girls you'd expect to be chess geeks trust me lol.
I play online chess a fair bit. Trying to convince my sister to learn so we can play IRL (I can always give her rook odds or something at first to level the field more). Would be tempted to join a club just for the social aspect but I'm content with playing online for the most part. Would be nice to play chess in a park with strangers sometime, as some parks have permanent chess boards, seems like a nice way to share an unspoken connection with someone even if they speak a different language. Chess is its own kind of language, watch grandmaster games on youtube, you can see how their personalities show in their chess playstyle, how they react to threats, etc.yeah i have a while back my friend out in poland tried teaching me but i couldn't catch on until i played online then i learned the pieces and how to move them and once you do it's rather easy but can be tricky at times which is why i perfer to play it online so i don't mess up moving my pieces in the wrong spot
Been a while since I have played, but yes.
Ever played "Tri-dimentional chess" (the one thought up in Star Trek that Spock and Kirk play)Many years ago occasionally, but one boy I was in school with was a national chess champion 😱😰 I only have one memory of seeing him play against one of our other prodigies, and I couldn’t believe how fast AND triumphant his tactics were 😵
For sure chess is a nice game I remember when I took my German friend for the first time in to a hookah bar and he told me let's play chess that was great 😂😂😂.
I used to play it with my father and elder sister. Half of the time I'd win, the other half I'd lose.
Yup in highschool and I still do on occasion.
Sweet score on the chess clubI would say I have a 75% win ratio at chess, played about 40 games in my life so far.
I genuinely enjoy chess and it is a good game to enjoy while sharing some wine and telling stories.I was in chess club but it was more of a board game club so i dont know that really counts lol
My brother and i play it together when we go to the parents.
Yes I love the game I play it all the time on my phone so when I get a chance I will play anyone.
We play it sometimes, I'm not very good at it though :P
I learnt to play two weeks ago. My boyfriend taught me. I'm yet quite bad at it.
Yes but I haven't played in more than a decade. I'd need to revisit the rules.
Sometimes. I used to play chess with my ex and my sister.
Here is a basic pointer, try and maintain a central position on the board
Also I suggest watching you tube videos on different chess strategiesI learned when I was a child. I used to play it some when I was in college. Great fun. It has been eons since I played though.
