Do you play games Chess or Go?

The history of chess and my family is no shorter than the history of Socialism in Europe. It has been a way for connecting with elders since the time my grandfather was a kid and played it with his grandfather. There's as chess board in every household of my family and I also do respect and play chess occasionally with my parents or grandparents and taught my sister how to play it as well.

Recently, I have been curious about 'Go', equally IQ demanding as chess, or maybe more. I knew about this game before but the want to play from game came from the drama series, 'The Glory'. Especially from the dialogues about Go from the main lead. I'll learn it in future, because no one in my family knows about this game.

I do- back in the day, I was DEEP into a variant called kung-fu chess, which was played in real-time online, with each piece having its own timer. The strategies were wonderfully deep and complex, and you had to be able to think on your feet; no simple victory-through-better-pattern-memorization here! Sadly, the company that ran the site shut down, and all attempts to get it going elsewhere collapsed.

These days, I've mostly moved on to other games, as chess and Go both tend to break down into simple repetitive patterns, and there's no shortage of other stuff to play. You can, however, play Go online on several sites, so if you're seeking to learn, there ARE places you can.

"Go" looks to me to be maddening in its complexity.

Maybe there's a formula to it, known to those who know it and no others.

As a young boy in the 1960s, I watched my dad frequently play chess with his dad over a few beers. At the time, I imagined myself being in my dad's position in years to come. Sadly, that was not to be. My dad died of liver cancer in 1970 when I was 11 years old.

I've never to this day found a willing opponent.

My sister plays "Go" with her son.

She gets creamed every time.

I don't know how she can keep coming back for more punishment.

She loves her son.

You can become strong by looking up for strategies online. I did the same too.

I haven't played in a while but I learnt chess from a very young age. My oldest brother taught me when I was a kid and I learnt how to win within few days. I thought maybe they're letting me win but as I grew older and played against others online and in person both. I won often. Soz I am good at it but I'm not familiar with Go but if it's equally challenging then I'd love to give it a try. I love playing any games that challenges my mind.

Go maybe equally challenging or more. I heard it is kind of more difficult and time taking than chess.

He is a good dad then! 🙂 My son (both of them actually) long ago got much better at chess than me. I win perhaps one out of every twenty games.

What's their age and for how many years have you been playing with them? I have been playing chess with my dad for around 8 years and I only won one time against him, that too when he just lost knowingly because I was literally crying after losing to him several times that session and after 'winning' I cried again because I knew he lost knowingly. Such a demanding kid I was lol.

I have three sons (20, 18, 14). The 20 and 14 play with me. 20 learned chess at age 6 and 14 learned at 10.

Each has their own special chess set.

Since you said your dad is the toughest then let me ask you have you ever got close to beating him? or have you beaten him in chess ever?

@serious no, the moment I would feel like I am successful in my plan, he would have some other plans. It's like he knows what's my next move is. He's always prepared. The best I could do was, remove his minister. It's easier for me to defeat my mom, grandparents or anyone else but my dad is really intelligent and wise with his moves.

I am extremely poor at playing chess, say there is a kid who is just 15 years old even that kid can beat me easily if he knows chess.

I have no problems accepting this. I am indeed bad at it.

As for playing chess, I almost never play that.

Never played Go. I love chess, tho, but I’m so baaaad at it. Was high school chess champion but that’s only because everyone else at my school was really bad! Used to play matches at my local chess club, now I just play online almost every day.

Yes, it was invented 1500 years ago in this very country. But some sources say it's from China, invented by someone named Xin Hua so I'm not very sure but it was created in this part of Asia.

Chess, yes. I've been wanting to get into Go but most people where I live don't play it so my only option is to play online against people who have been playing for many, many years.

Yes, Go is not as commonly known as Chess. It's usually popular among senior citizens.
