Girls, Is dancing done barefoot?

Hiii there ! I was doing dancing lessons and one day my teacher asked me to take my shoes off and my socks too (because i used to keep them on everyday) and dance barefoot to free my feet and that it would make it easier and better to dance. Do you think this is right or wrong? And why?
