Do we really need lifeguards at pools/beaches in 2025?

I doubt that people going to pools would appreciate someone in a red swimsuit staring at them all day, making them uncomfortable, and even invading their privacy. Mind your own business!

And I'm pretty sure nobody wants said people approaching them or touching them in the water.

Also, if there really are people at pools who "can't swim", then what the hell are they doing at the pool in the first place?

In the US alone lifeguards have saved tens of thousands of lives. Around the world it's hundreds of thousands.

They aren't there to stare at people. They are trying to watch everyone at once. They are well trained in knowing what to look for, which is not what most people think. Someone drowning does not look like what they show in Hollywood.

Come on now. The person is saving their life. Even the most modest person is not going to worry about being touched.

No. Or at least very rarely. They are more likely to get themselves drowned, because the drowning person will pull them under and drown both of them. You have to know how to do it and put in lots of practice. And the lifeguard needs to be a very good swimmer themselves. They would not get certified if they were not.

The average person would probably not even recognize someone who is drowning. As I said, not like Hollywood.

Even the best swimmers can and do drown. The large majority of people swimming are not good swimmers. There are all kinds of things that can happen to cause them to drown, including simple exhaustion.

For all we know @danielle872024 the ladies like to sometimes wink 😜 their way or even the bi-gay guys wink at the lifeguard/s - 🤣 - I personally recall one time, two lifeguards off duty outside work in a pickup truck clearly were "a couple outside of work" or they were "just friends" lol 😆 going home after a long day's work

Much like the beaches here with the rules people should follow "only swim at supervised beaches, only swim between the flags, keep an eye on the flags moving, and keep an eye on the lifeguards keeping and eye on all of us" and I've donated to lifeguard charities here 🤑 🎁
