Is pool lifeguarding an age-appropriate job at 30?

I used to be a lifeguard as a teenager. Now at 30, I am unemployed and collect disability benefits. I used to be an EMT and a software engineer, but the tech job market has been destroyed and I cannot return to healthcare/public safety due to some trouble I got into about 10 years ago.

I am receiving $1,800 a month with SSDI, but I am allowed to make a certain amount of additional income a month, as long as I don't exceed a certain threshold (I think around $1,200 a month).

Would pool lifeguarding be age-appropriate for a 30 year old? Some places around here are offering free courses with certification.

If you can pass the working with public test , and upgrade your first aid , yes of course 30 is a better age to do it. You will also need a working with children check of course.

Yes, there’s no certain age for lifeguards. They can be any age. I don’t think anyone would judge you.

You can be a lifeguard at age 15. My concern would. be having a supervisor that is almost half my age.

At least it is a authoritative role. I get to enforce rules and be an emergency responder. That is the closest I can be to an official person.

Personally, I'd rather have an adult of a decent age on life guard duty anyways because I know by then they have enough life experience they should at least be competent. I don't want my kid's life depending on a teenager with a few hours of CPR training and a whistle. Not to mention when you get teens or young adults to do it I actually think personally the odds of assault go up as well as abuse of position. A life guard is a figure of authority to a degree because he can kick you out and I've seen ounces of power go to peoples heads too.

That's true. I can most certainly inquire about the role at least. Free lifeguard training! That is difficult to beat, considering most places charge at least $160 for training.
