Lots of people pay for content on services like appletv, Netflix. Hulu, prime… therefore they are less likely to go to a theatre and spend up to see a movie. Movies are still showing and blockbusters still get a draw when they open. However many movies are only released on certain services and not in the theatre

I think the problem is they're all too samey and people just got bored of the same few story lines over and over.

Because cowboy movies have always sucked ass, nobody likes them when they were a thing, either. People only went into the theaters showing it because it was often the only place with air conditioning.
