For us older heads, Were you confused when they said soft rock was Yacht Rock?

First time I heard someone say Yacht rock I was like WTf? Lol back in my day. I heard people say Elevator music , but Yacht Rock? Did you think the same thing? This is for us older heads lol

I've never heard the term 'yacht rock'. I used to hear 'elevator music' a lot though. Elevator music is not rock at all.

A brand name associated with elevator music is Muzak. In the John Lennon song How Do You sleep", there is a line,

"The sound you make is Muzak to my ears".

Calling something 'elevator music' or 'Muzak' is very derogatory. He is really cutting down Paul McCartney's music which was very mild and wimpy compared to Lennon's music.

That’s interesting, I am still shocked that you and another guy never heard the term yacht rock before or yet? , but when you do print you do , understand it’s a new term that came out in 2005

Yea apparently yacht rock didn’t start until 2005 , I just looked it up lol , but when I was growing up , it was always considered soft rock or elevator music in my area. So when I heard it called Yacht Tock I was like where did this come from lol?

Apparently the term came out in 2005 , I remember seeing an infomercial trying to sell a box set of Yacht Rock and I was like Yacht Rock instead of soft rock? WTF? Lol
