When someone tells you they are a writer with no other context what are you thinking they mean in your head?

[Still-alive]

They like the hobby of writing but not necessarily published anything

They are a published author that may or may not be making decent money at it

They are a published author and making a living at it

They're a published author and are famous (the fame is necessary in your head for someone to call themselves a 'writer')

Other

[Theoretical_Apulu]

I started calling myself a writer only after officially publishing my poem in school's magazine but anyone is uses a pen for creative stuff is writer to me.

[Theoretical_Apulu]

Anyone who uses a pen

That they express themselves better through words and that possibly they write for fun and not fame or money.

[menina]

I would assume they just enjoying writing but didn't publish anything.

There was a time I wanted to pursue this career, then I realized I probably won't make money out of it. So, I quit. I prefer writing for fun or just to vent when there's no one to talk to.

“A writer” who is serious and produces articles or documentaries etc will share a few articles they feel proud about and those are cool convo topics. But “a writer” who claims to be blocked till suddenly they meet you… avoid sharing anything too personal that will end up in their storybooks.

Mostly, I think of authors.
Here on this side, because it has such a weird selection of available jobs, it can mean everything. Geologist is an option, but journalist isn't. I would argue there are many more journalists than geologists.

[ElenaLena]

They have imagination and your tells inspire them immediately 😄

[Still-alive]

i gotten better at people watching for sure ;)

[4ngelic]

Their main job is writing, probably fiction, but they are most likely not making that much money out of it

[queenofcardio]

I'm thinking are they actually making money and how much.

[SaoirseS]

That they write for publication, or it is a significant part of their employment.

[MrChinaski]

They got tired of inviting women to see their etchings.

[AngryCarl3]

almost lol, more of a snort actually.

[AngryCarl3]

In today's era of self-publishing all you have to do is finish a story. It doesn't even have to be good.
