Some people “think”/hear a voice other than their own when reading.
Mine has always been mine. Even the badly attempted accents. Though I can hear famous voices for a while if I really concentrate.
What about you?

What a great question! If it is an article online, my own. If it is the Lord of the Rings I hear Tolkien in narration but I hear the voices of the movie actors when the corresponding character is speaking in the text. Thinking deeper, for all novels I think it the voice of the author or how I imagine the voice would sound during narration and of how I imagine the characters would sound when they are speaking.
This might be the best question I've seen on here so far. Excellent, great, awesome, and every other superlative.
Great opinion.
Sometimes if I mute baseball I can still hear Vin Scully still doing the monologue, too. So I get you.
And, thank you. ☺️😎
I often make up different voices in my head for each character based on what i feel they might sound like given their description. A lot of times those voices are based of ones I've heard else where. Actors that may have played a character similar. It helps with getting more into the story.
When i read book or when I am writing, I usually read it in my voice. I read articles and posts online with either the OP's voice (if I know it) or my standard male/female voice. I literally have a bunch of voices I imagine different G@G users having. I think still-alive made a post a while back with audio and it surprised me because I thought he sounded different lol.
I get what you mean on how you imagine people and then hearing them. It’s fun how the brain tries to adjust then. : )
yeah, it can be fun, I think you have a kind voice :)
Awe. Thank you. ☺️
If I am reading a text, or a book whose characters I am familiar with, I definitely hear it in the individuals voice who is speaking the lines. I'm using voice to text right now and I only hear my voice :-)
That would be great. Each individual voice. Sounds like you have surround sound quality reading.
Never thought of it in that manner😂!
You are very clever!
@emiliamazing 🤷♀️ lol

If it's something I wrote/write/am re-reading, I hear my own.
If somebody else wrote it, I imagine their voice; or try to. Which is a big mystery, sometimes, and that can be frustrating. But I certainly don't hear my voice then. Though I'm not sure I hear the unknown. Maybe that's the key difference.
Do you get sound effects to scenes too?
I'm reading The Hunt for Red October right now. I can only hear Ramius' lines in Sean Connery's voice.
A great break from reality that must be. He has such a distinctive voice.
He did indeed. Likewise with Greer and James Earl Jones.
I hear the characters' voices. Little boy = little boy voice. Young woman = my voice 😂. Old man = Old man voice. The voice tends to match the personality as well, as emotions such as slow and drawn out, frantic, upbeat, sad, etc.
Do you get sound effects to scenes too? AmandaYVR gave me this idea. You both seem to have equally creative minds, it makes me curious.
I do hear sound effects! I can imagine tastes and smells too. I have a daughter that's just flies through books. She says she doesn't even see the words on the pages, that's it's like a movie plaguing inn her head. I'm not quite there, but I do get the senses.
*playing in her head
Swipe to text got me!
That is a gift. Nice. 😎
Usually the voice in my head that keeps saying "kill, kill" drowns out the one reading the book.
So silly. lol
It depends, is it a book where a movie or show has already been made about it, if so I hear the voices of the actors who play those characters, otherwise, it's just my voice.
Excellent point. That does help.
I just hear my own voice when reading in my head. When I read a book though I like to very quietly whisper the words if no one is around. I feel like it helps me retain more. 😅
I do this with my favourite parts. Sometimes it makes my cats jump awake if the house has been silent for a while “Who came in? Who are you talking to?”
lol Love it.
Depending on my mood unless if it serious I need to hear myself sometimes, to save the data faster, also if I need only to understand I don't hear myself.
That is a really interesting switch. : )
My own, this also leads up to another question. Did you know not everyone has an inner narrative? There’s people who do, people who don’t, and people who use more imagery.
Fascinating hidden details about people.
It's all about me! Jk but I do only here my voice or well read it out loud in silence in my head... if that makes sense haha
*hear
And when I have to concentrate, I read it out loud for real and slower too and also when i'm reading English books to work on my pronunciation lol
It makes perfect sense. : )
Okay good haha
It's my own voice that I hear (as I hear it) - faster than I can read out loud, and I will often skip over words.
Isn’t that cheating? It would bug me if mine did that.
Cheating? ... It's a subconscious act, lol. I go back and read it again, to make sense of what I'm reading. It does bug me...
I’m only teasing. We’ve all done it.
I do it a lot, though...😒
Happens to me when my mind has too much else to focus on.
Sometimes I hear Will Ferrel’s, Jeff Goldblum’s, Peter Griffin’s, Megatron’s, or unknown. Sometimes when I don’t know who to hear it cuts out like internet lag
Very funny. Good opinion.
Thanks, I also hear Sir David Attenborough sometimes too
He’s a good one too.
A legend, some would say.
He has a voice just as iconic as Rexy’s roar
If it’s anything like Jurassic Parks version. Heck yes.
That’s what I’m saying.
Depending on the genre or main character' personality, I'd be hearing not only mine but different others that I subconsciously find suitable for some line like some kind of mental entrainment.
I create voices in my head for what I think they sound like.
Fun fact~ some people don't have an internal voice. It's called aphantasia
That is creative.
Very fun fact!
When I read I feel like I hear the characters voices in the story
That is ideal.
Never though much about it 🤔. I guess it is another voice than my own but not one I could pinpoint. Lol.
I’ve heard this can be most common.
Oh definitely my voice, I'm just reading to myself but in my head lol. But the images my mind creates really makes the stories come alive.
Same here. 😎
Best way! 😉😎
I will look into it as I go rest...
will get back with the answer, tomorrow...
Your like awaits you.
I usually hear a woman's soft voice. Sometimes scarlet's.
I dont think/hear any voice, I see pictures.
Interesting. : )
I don't hear a voice when I read.
Do you get anything? Pictures? Curious.
