I've been arguing with people at work. They all listen to Audible and talk about how they are big readers. But reading... is using ur eyes. Lol. I feel like listening to books means ur a listener. Reading them with your eyes makes you a reader. Vote which you think is right or tell me ur prospective!

I like to read and I prefer audio books because I struggle with ADHD that makes it hard to just sit and enjoy a book, especially in loud surroundings. I don’t consider it reading but an audiobook, but still retaining the information nonetheless.
I feel like there’s so much emphasis on reading vs. any other form of getting the same information and I think that it’s BS. I can hear a quote or I can read a quote. Me reading the quote vs. verbally hearing it is not going to make it stick to my brain any differently.
But to answer the question, yes it is technically listening, but it can be argued if the information is retained more through visual reading vs. hearing, and I don’t think so.
The language has not adapted to new technologies. It's not reading in a literal sense. But the words are the same, and if you listen carefully and comprehend, it has the same end effect as reading.
Bottom line is that we don't really have a word for it.
Does a blind person "read" braille? They aren't using the sense of vision. They are using a different sense. Yet we still call it reading, not feeling.
By the way, I've tried audio books briefly. I don't like them at all. It might be OK if you are driving long distance and listen in the car. I've heard a lot of other people say the same thing about long distance driving. In any other circumstance I don't like it at all. I don't like ebooks either. Gimme a real book.
