It does not have to be an expensive car or one that has a specific color.
The most pretentious car a person could drive is the one he does not own. It's a car that is on lease because in those cases, the driver does usually not have the funds or does not want to invest money on something he could not or does not want to pay for.
This driver pretends to own something he does not and to me, that is pretentious. It could be a second hand car or a new car. As long as he cannot afford it, he is pretending to own something he is not.
The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupe, which sold for $142 million at auction in 2022, is pretty darn pretentious.
If you're talking new cars, that would be the 2026 Rolls-Royce La Rose Noire Droptail, with only four copies in circulation, making it extremely rare and exclusive. That one sells for a mere $28 million. I'll take two, please.
Pretentious in English is a complicated term it means so many things while in other languages it's comes from pretension what means a claim for something others don't want to give you.
