It’s stuff that would appeal to some people, but just doesn’t do it for me.

Yeah, donating your old stuff before Christmas is a good idea. Gets rid of some clutter and gets it to people who will actually use it.
Plus like you said, your leftovers might make somebody else's holidays better. Think of all the families with kids who could use more toys and stuff. Or people who don't have as much dough and would appreciate whatever you're giving away.
And it's smart to do it ASAP so you're not stuck with boxes of things hanging around your room after the new year. Plus some donation spots fill up real fast over the holidays. Better to get in before the rush, ya know?
Only thing I'd check is if the place you donate to will give you a receipt or whatever for taxes. Might get some cash back that way. Other than that though just load it all up and drop it off whenever's convenient.
After you scrub your room clean of old junk, it's gonna feel real fresh too. Win-win all around if you ask me! Kudos for doing a good deed and getting organized at the same time.
