I don't want to be a new years grinch or anything, but the ball drop is the most boring thing ever. OOOO look a giant light bulb ball is slowly moving down a pole.

When I was a little kid my parents let me stay up all night to see this event on the TV. And I was stoked! I don't know exactly what little me was expecting to see but was excited. I was determined to not fall asleep! And It was the biggest disappointment of my life. Since then I've had a tradition of not seeing it.

The ball drop is just a countdown timer for a huge group of people in Times Square. If it were a clockface it wouldn't be visible from every angle. Everyone can see a sphere sliding down a pole hit bottom at the same time. Let the screaming begin.
