+1 yMainly:
1. Because we want to have children together and have a family of our own
2. Because we are conservatives and it is our tradition
3. Because we could afford it
What made us relatively sure we can have a successful marriage:
1. We cohabited for about 4 years with no serious drama
2. We were childhood friends and have a very long history of bonding with each other
3. We communicate with each other very well
4. We are sexually compatible
I could and would continue cohabiting with him until one of us died if it was just for love. Marriage was mainly for children, family, and traditions.20 Reply

+1 yI CHOSE to marry... because ANY journey is more enjoyable in GOOD company!
When you function as a couple, ... a long-term 'partnership', you DOUBLE the potential of perceptions, perspectives, vigilance and unique insights.
You 'half' the chances of acting rashly.
It increases your (pl) opportunities, especially if amorally-cunningly inclined
favoring that committed partnership.
"Enough here for everyone BUT... me & mine foremost.
'We' can't help others without cunningly-applying the existing resources"
It is said: "A WISE person 'makes' more opportunities, than they find" ~

+1 yBecause it's a mission and a venture that takes serious work behind it, solid foundations, and a willingness to make an effort that will last for decades. That's the kind of view I take for all my endeavors - marriage, politics, and work. Not one, not five, not ten years, but for life.

Anonymous(18-24)+1 yNot because of love but because I need her. I need to make her happy. Committing my life to her as a leader and a servant is the only thing that gives my life meaning. Her happiness somehow feels better than my own. sacrificing my desires for her happiness and well-being gives me the greatest sense of contentment. (I know it sounds simpy bit I do everything for her even if she doesn’t agree with what’s best)

@Billlewis Well, of course it's hard because 1.) Few women want that and by 'want' I mean will actually stay with a guy doing that even if they think they want that guy, 2.) There's lots of guys like you. HIGH SUPPLY, LOW DEMAND. The women who want this already have 10 guys on a waiting list. Probably some of those guys pay them money too.
I think marriege is not only security also promise not to cheat and take care of eachother in sickness like a contract that you can not just drop your wife if she lose her arm or get cancer or accident she or he get paralized, because in old days women used to be just housewives , take care of kids and clean an cook for the house with no income so if husband left her how can she take care of the kids or herself thats why government brought marriage licence to the table to protect both sides, suppose you won the lottery and run out the door with no obligations if you were not married :) or find another woman , just think there would be a lot of affairs going around if you were not married and would not be illegal.

+1 yWe got married as it was a logical step after dating and it also entitled us to Forces Accommodation, which for newly weds is a big thing.
it was also to do with death in service and pensions.
yes we would have gotten married anyhow, this just made it a bit more of an obvious thing to do.
I am now divorced and unsure if would get married again.
and before anyone jumps on the divorce bandwagon, my ex wife and me are very good friends and still chat regularly.00 ReplyOnly because I found the right person and I have high standards which they proved they could meet over a long period of time so they earned it. If I didn't happen to meet the right person then I wouldn't get married.
Note: Guys should never get married without a prenup in today's world.00 Reply851 opinions shared on Marriage & Weddings topic. I was really sick of dating. I was tired of the games and the deceit and dumping people and getting dumped. I was ready to give up women for a while maybe forever.
I met my future wife the very next day and discovered somebody who I was waiting for my whole life.00 ReplyBecause I love her. It doesn't make sense, love doesn't make sense. To be successful at it, you have to put someone else's needs and wants ahead of your own. This is not natural, and yet you do it anyway.
