I wouldn't marry a woman who wouldn't enthusiastically take my last name. Couple of reasons.

First, there are a lot of important practical reasons for a husband, wife and kids to share the same last name.

Second, and more importantly, when a woman doesn't want to take her husband's last name it says some very important things about her worldview and her attitude toward men and relationships, and a woman like that isn't worthy of a good man's love and dedication.

What is most important to me is that she WANTS to take my last name. It's a very important indication of her mindset and value. A woman who doesn't want to take my name and start a new family with me is not a woman I would commit the rest of my life to.

After working with people who needed their names changed on several docs and seeing how much of a hassle and time consuming it was, i would legally prefer my last name stay the same on paper but i would be fine with others referring to me by his last name

A lot of men who say that it's important aren't businessmen or successful. I say that because there are many many things a couple can do by having separate surnames that couples with the same surname can only ever dream about.

As a very easy example, even if it's a at home business selling socks, hire your wife as an employee & use that to write off some tax expenses. Duh.

But then there's a reason why such men aren't businessmen or successful. They're dimwitted and never see the big picture.

It’s symbolic. It’s says I’m responsible for my family as the leader and protector. By her giving up her last name it says she loves me and through love she is submissive and approves of my ability to lead her. Why wouldn’t my wife want to take my name? I wouldn’t be with a woman if we couldn’t even agree on something as simple as giving up her last name. If this is a wall for you, then marriage isn’t for you. There are greater challenges ahead.

I won’t marry but speaking for other couples, there’s no need for a wife to take her husband’s last name. It’s not feminist type thing as some immature people think. It’s more of an individuality of the girl and her choice which should be respected.

In my country the wife maintan her maiden name, and she could use if she want also hausband surname paired with her maiden name. In my opinion is important that my children have my surname.
