Honestly I don’t know why they would want to pay a tax to have some government official tell them who they can be committed to. Seems crazy… You can easily make a promise to whoever you want under whatever religion you follow. Wills and Trusts work well for passing on wealth and managing assets when someone can’t do it themselves. Power of attorney work well for medical decisions of loved ones. I think the only actual benefit of marriage is to file a joint tax return in the event that each partner has drastically different income levels. I don’t think the government should have any hand in marriage. You should take that up with your religious institution. If you want lower taxes, it would be smarter to try to destroy income tax or move toward a low flat tax rather than pay more tax via marriage licenses.

Sure they should be able to get married like everyone else. Also every religion should ditch the rules and ideas that prevent people from marrying or having a relationship with someone outside of your religion. In general I find it funny that the vast majority of organized religious organizations do their best to said their given religion as this uniting force of good. Yet a lot of times it's these organizations that foster the most division and have done so through out human history.

In general religion is nothing but a belief and text. So religion itself isn't the issue, it's what people use it for and the acts they attempt to justify with it.

I disagree with the government being involved in marriage at all, full stop. Don't care if it's gay, straight, man and gopher, woman and dog, whatever.

Marriage is a religious covenant and should be left alone.

If the government wants to give tax breaks to married folks, then they should make a civil union with the same tax breaks to people who don't want to involve themselves with the church or that the church doesn't want to involve itself with.
