Do Men take everything the wife says LITERALLY?

So getting to the point the conversation went like this

I was talking about how comfortable my small business is and that i am not getting pressured and not see myself growing it in the meantime but in the future when my kids get older and my husband gets occupied away from me i'll grow it and have something to myself.
I said that to my husband in a joking matter BUT when I told that conversation to my mother and sister they said that I should be careful what I say to my husband, That he might take the "getting occupied away from me" seriously and actually consider it.

So my question to the men here is what is your take if your wife says that?

When in doubt, talk it out. Go talk to your husband about that now. Yes, if I were to hear that I might think you’re dropping hints that you plan on creating distance between us in the future. Each guy is different. Better safe than sorry, talk to him and clarify your thoughts.
