Marriage complicates things?

I'm 36 boyfriend is 53... We love each other deeply and express that often. He has never been married and has the belief that marriage just complicates things. He also doesn't even bat an eye or flinch whwn others already assume we are married or refer to me as his wife. How can I change his view on that without scaring him and get him to make the leap to propose as I would gladly agree to spend my life with him even if meant no ring (have not told him that)?

I am sorry but he is not going to change. This is one of those cases where it really isn't you, it's him. He probably does love you very much. And would (? will?) stay with you forever. But he's 53. He is not going to suddenly be swayed into changing his mind on marriage. Particularly when he says that it "just complicates things".

I strongly recommend you not even attempt to change his views. It may backfire on you.

If anything I think he would prefer to buy you a ring and just not get married. You're not going to get him to marry you. Maybe you should vote and get involved in politics in such a way that changes laws to make marriage not be "complicated" anymore. But it's women who wanted it like this and now it's women like you paying the price.

Not married but in a long term relationship and live together though I would marry him in a heartbeat. After a string of toxic relationships he is not the type I normally would date and he spent 2 years in the friend zone before making his move. We then realized we have more in common than originally thought, a mutual respect for each other and grew to love each other. Have come to see that age is just a number in many ways..
