Why is marriage such a big deal to some people?

I’m 30 and I keep hearing about people getting married and starting a family.

I’ve been w my boyfriend for 10 years on and off and I think that I grew to not wanting to be tied down in a marriage. My mom married 3 times. Seems like marriage only complicates things when a relationship ends between a couple. I don’t understand why people make such a big deal about it.

I would feel like people have bigger dreams and goals than to get married. I don't know.

Is marriage a big deal for you? If so, why?

Well marriage nowadays to the modern world is nothing really... Divorce has increased dramatically since 10-20 years ago.

People lost value.. Just like they lost morals..

But marriage is a big deal to me because I don't believe in divorce.. So that means that when I get married, I'm gonna make sure I find the right girl.

Because marriage IS a big deal.. It's a lifelong commitment to be with someone. "I swear by the word of God to be faithful, respectful, patient, caring, kind and to love (insert name) forever until death do us apart"

When you're saying those vows.. Oh man 😍 That's the real shit! You're ready to make your lives together.

Marriage is the way you make it. To me.. It's something special 😁💕

Others do it for money, papers (residence bwnefits), inheritance.. You know.. The wrong reasons.

Same as you. I don't see it either. Some people think being married makes you a better person compared to others in society. Like you are higher ranking than your single friends. Some people feel incomplete as a person unless they are married, like they are lost in life and scared to be by themselves. Rather pathetic if you ask me.

It's not a huge deal for me, but I would like to get married. That's assuming I meet the right person for me. If not, I'd be happy being single or just having casual/short term relationships for the rest of my life. To me it's a big sign of commitment and that I can trust that person.

It's important to some people because that's just they way they are combined with societal expectations. I mean, why do some people value traveling the world or having a big house while others don't? People just place value in different things for whatever reason. Doesn't mean they're wrong for valuing different stuff. I don't want kids, but that doesn't mean I think less of people who feel their purpose in life is to raise a family. It just happens that I don't value that/it doesn't make me happy.

It is a big deal for me because I would love it to be documented, i would love it to be official and legal, you can say I'm old fashioned.
Marriage certainly doesn't mean u don't have dreams or goals. Who told u that u can't achieve your dreams when you're married? That's totally not right.
I do agree tho, that some people assume that after marriage their life is over and they only have to stay in the house and cook.. which I think is the wrong idea of marriage

But anyway just because other people like getting married this never means that you should. And u shouldn't be pressured into it. Do whatever u like, and leave others do whatever makes them happy

Does that mean marriage, family and kids are my only goals? No. I'm a young businesswoman and I have many plans for my career and future.

Marriage is the total commitment, with no holes barred. It tells each other, and the world, that you have committed yourselves to love and care for each other for the rest of your lives. It's also a legal commitment. No other commitment for a couple, is as deep as marriage.

I've always been a sort of old fashioned person and a bit of a romanticizer of movies, books and tv shows that include the topic of love. I've loved it when characters grow up and marry their high school sweetheart or childhood best friend. Right from Childhood, I wanted to fall in love, marry, have a family and grow old with my wife.

I use my parents marriage as an example of what NOT to do in a marriage, and I hope to use those lessons to prevent any problems I may have in a relationship.

For me it isn't, but can't say the same about my girlfriend, we usually get to fight about it, but i keep saying to her that marriage doesn't mean stabilization, it's just a money spend in a party to celebrate what you already have in a long time.. :P

wasn't a big deal for me. we just figured the economic were worth it. we were going to be together forever so why not take advantage of the benefits of marriage
