Why do people make marriage and weddings such a big deal?

It's a great milestone and the union of two families. Even when it's a non-religious wedding, you're still making public marital vows in front of your family and friends. Plus they're official your family. I'm married since Sept 20, 2024 and it was the most perfect wedding ever at a beautiful City Hall.

Actually a marriage is free you just have to sign the paper at the townhall so it cost nothing, there's also religious wedding that are free.

It's wedding ceremony that are very costly but if you really want to get married and have no money it's totally possible to do so as you only have to sign the paper at the town hall (you can even wear jeans or a tracksuit).

It give you security, if your partner die then you touch a part of his retiree money, you also can get his car / house, etc.. lots of others stuff, it lower tax, and there's also lots of other advantage;

I agree with you, but that's generally women that make it a big deal. Most men would prefer to just get the certificate and be done with it. Most men don't want to deny a woman a wedding, because many women dream about it when they are kids. It is a waste of money though. It doesn't ensure they will stay together, and it doesn't make the marriage stronger.

My parents and I made it free for my now husband. He didn't have to spend any money on our honeymoon flight tickets nor his groom clothes nor shoes either. The only thing that cost were the meals and restaurants. If the entire wedding and even marriage certificate was free for the man (the woman and her parents pay for it all), wouldn't that take away your worries about too much waste of money?

Plus it doesn't have to be religious. Non-religious, civil weddings are cheaper.

Honestly I just like weddings because of the food, the music and the gifts. They are parties and I like parties.

It's a great celebration that created memories from a wonderful day.
Is it worth the money? No!
Would I do it again cheaper? Yes! (We did marry later because of covid and just continued saving money for it)
Also, it saves money in the long run, which is weird. But tax calculations are weird.

it doesn't have to be expensive or take a lot of time. you can go to the court house and be in and out in minutes. and it's not expensive. there are choices that people can make: make it expensive, go into debt, so i can make others envious over social media. or skip all of that and have a quiet, small, inexpensive ceremony.
