Who benefits the most from marriage? The man or the woman?

On average, women clearly benefit more from marriage, and more importantly, from divorce, which is an inseparable component of marriage, especially today.

There is no question a healthy, happy, lasting marriage benefits both men and women, but the reality is that most marriages are not that way today. Half end in divorce and when marriages do end in divorce, men are harmed far more than women. Divorce actually benefits women and harms men, which is why women file 80% of divorces.

There are often-quoted studies that show married men live longer and are healthier than unmarried men. But those studies are deeply flawed for two reasons. First, to know how long someone is going to live, you have to wait until they die. The men in those studies, by necessity, were older men who were married during a time when marriage was VERY different than it is today, a time when men benefitted much more from marriage than younger men do today. So the results are not meaningful to TODAY's men in evaluating the benefits, costs and risks of TODAY's marriage.

And second, the studies group divorced men with unmarried men. Considering that on average divorce helps women and hurts men, often destroying their lives, that clearly skews the results of those studies, rendering them meaningless at best, and very misleading at worst.

The reality is that in the big picture of the game of marriage and divorce today, women benefit and men lose. And that is what is destroying the institution of marriage, which is undermining the core of western society in countless insidious ways.
