1. Grey wolves, Eurasian beavers, gibbons, California mice, Shingleback lizards, diplozoon paradoxum (a species of flatworms,) and black vultures are all examples of animal species that monogamously for their lifetime. So the concept of monogamous lifetime bonding is NOT unique to humans!

2. Most things that species repeat over thousands of years are done because they contribute to the ability to procreate and raise offspring until they reach the age to procreate.

Manly p hall has written about the esoteric marriage, the chemical wedding. Though I haven't really studied it. I'm sure that his explanation will be more meaningful than 9/10 opinions that will get here.

Because women were/are considered "weak" by society. Therefore, they needed a "strong" human to protect them and that human was a man. Then it was also due to money and tax benefits.

Covenantal marriage has been around for millennia. Now, if you mean modern marriage... that was introduced primarily to increase the income of law firms.
