Is it still the tradition for a new wife to have a trousseau? (Collection of new things, clothes, heirlooms, etc)?

I’m just curious. My parents never had any of that, but I’m wondering what’s traditional now.

For a while people registered for gifts they wanted for their home trousers or dowry that way nobody got them things they didn't want like two toasters etc but now what couples want is cold hard cash. Which kind of makes sense as most people live together for at least 5 years and marry in their 30s, because also very few parents actually pay for the wedding these days and because its such a grand affair often the money guests give is actually paying for part of the wedding such as the meal.

For my wedding my parents paid for it, gave us a house and we registered and had a mixture of gifts and money.

I think most people would rather give money in a card because you don't have the hassle of trying to buy a certain item on a register and you can control how much you give.
