Should a new married couple invest in a new wardrobe of clothes?

That's not an investment. Investments at least have some possibility of appreciation. New clothes are an expense. You can minimize this expense while still having a fabulous wardrobe if you are willing to buy from resale and thrift shops. My wife has a closet full of famous labels but rarely spends more than about $50 for anything. Manolo Blahnik sandals: $35. Thom Browne sweater: $50. Prada top: $40...

All as new. Some found here with tags, some apparently worn once. We wonder who donates these items. Some are selling on eBay or Poshmark for hundreds of dollars.
