Some famous person on some reality show once said, "I have had [X number of] husbands. I guess I just love being married!"
I agree. I never want to not be married. There's a partner for every activity, someone to talk to about everything, sex all the time, chores and responsibilities are split, someone always looking out for you, knowing you're loved and appreciated and someone looks forward to seeing you and talking to you every day... We can afford more, give/get free massages, there's a built in insurance policy if anything happens to one of you, they get you more than anyone else, they cheer you one because your success is their success, etc. Not to mention all of the perks like work benefits and stuff that carry over from the other person. Double the pleasure, double the fun!
Single life is like half a life by comparison. It's boring and empty, and people who are trying to date waste so much time on the process. It's a lot of effort with little reward. Most are poorer too. I've never enjoyed being single and never want to be single.
Dating doesn't have the same level of intimacy and commitment. It's just not as satisfying.
The only downside is picking the wrong person to marry.10 ReplyMine's lasted 20 years so far. It's hard work but it's definitely worth it.
It's not for the feint of heart either. In the last ten years I had to face what looked like a terminal diagnosis for my wife - thankfully she beat the odds - then 3 years ago she had to cope with me spending 3 months in a coma during Covid, which meant no visitors, with Covid and me being on life support for that time, cardiac and respiratory arrest and hearing I'd arrested them having to wait another four hours to see if they'd managed to resuscitate me, then two more weeks before I finally woke up.
The reason so many end in divorce is that so many go into it looking at what's in it for them instead of what they can give to the other person. Another reason is after children come along there's a postmodern idea that you have to prioritise the children over the spouse. The result of that is that you leave your spouse feeling like they're an option not a priority, so when a handsome jawline or a pair of perky tits comes along and offers to make you feel like you're their priority not an option it's a big problem very quickly.
It's fucking hard work to keep a marriage healthy but it's definitely worth it. Warts and all.10 Reply
+1 yIt depends on what you want. A marriage certificate has no additional power over your relationship. It's just a confirmation of the state of your relationship.
From my experience, I can say that having the same name makes many things easier (especially related to kids or spouse in the hospital), but it's nothing one paper from a lawyer can't solve.
So, if you want to have a wedding, marriage certificate, and probably lower taxes in some regions, go for it :)
For some people, it also has a sentimental value (I was such a person). Also valid reason :)10 Replyvery bad. maybe a good thing for woman but for guys it is just compromising our entire life for having someone by our side for things like doing the chores and having pseudo guranteed sex.
ifyou are not religious it is absolutly self-destructive behavior.

Actually marriage is not bad.
858 opinions shared on Marriage & Weddings topic. I have had a really good marriage so far so I may be biased. I think if you find the right partner it is good. A lot depends on luck and a lot of people for whatever reason and not marriage material. it is not for everybody.

+1 yUsed to want it really bad. But I’ve soured on it. Most people I know who were “happily married” have gotten divorced.
40 Replygirlfriend/boyfriend is BS. Marriage is only thing that really gives a person the right to sleep with. Just the other day someone had to leave her boyfriend because he cheated. And this is like the story everywhere.
Guy or girl leading on and not having children and then wasting 10-16 years to just leave then in dust sadly

+1 yI like the concept of marriage. I'm not so sure that modern people are really equipped to handle it, but if I found an emotionally healthy woman, I'd be happy to marry her.

+1 yThe risks and hazards have risen for most men, perhaps most people, and the rewards and benefits have fallen off. When something rewards less and pays off less, you get less of it.

I fail to see how a piece of paper from a church or a government are as important as the underlying relationship between partners. In many places you’re also deemed to be ‘married’ after living together for a certain period, whether you formally ‘marry’ or not.
