I think it's because at such a broad-level bird's eye view of the data, uneducated people are, on average, more traditional (especially with respect to marriage and family values) than educated people.
I say that because let's break down the data further and look at Jews, for example. Jews in the US are the most educated and affluent religious group in the US. Yet they also have some of the lowest divorce rates (only beaten by devout Catholics among Judeo-Christians) despite being the most educated.
Let's look at Asians as another example. Asians have the lowest divorce rates, by far, among all racial groups in the US despite Asians being the most educated and affluent racial group. Yet Asians are also also the most traditional of the racial groups with respect to marriage and family. Meanwhile, divorce rates are the highest among black Americans even though native-born black Americans are the worst as far as educational attainment between Whites, Hispanics, Asians, and Blacks, but black Americans are the least traditional/conservative racial group.
So I really think when we further break down the data like this, the strongest correlator to stable marriages is not the lack of education, but conformity to tradition.
Definitely so; I just think there at least appears to be a stronger correlation (still careful not to conflate it with causation) of tradition to stable marriages.
For example, I am from Japan and Japan has among the most stable marriage rates with very low divorce rates among developed nations. Yet Japanese are extremely traditional about marriage. Marriage is considered more of a duty, about uniting families, and ultimately raising children than a way for people to express their love.
Just anecdotally, the tradition in my experience tends to hold couples together more tightly through thick and thin, for better or for worse. When we prioritize what's best for the family and children, even couples who aren't very happy with each other often choose to stay together. There's also a very strong social stigma towards divorcees in Japanese culture.
It was only about bit over half a century ago when arranged marriages were common in Japan, e. g., and my wife's parents were actually arranged in marriage. When people view marriage in this traditional context as a responsibility first and foremost rather than a luxury, I think they're more likely to stay together even during the hardest conditions.
I would be willing to bet a nontrivial sum of money if given a very modern-minded couple who wants a partnership in marriage and is marrying primarily to celebrate their love for each other vs. a couple who has a more traditional mindset of viewing marriage as a responsibility that the latter couple would have a more stable marriage than the former.
I like how culture and traditions bring us together and keep us together. I understand that traditions and cultures have a better effect on marriage, whereas in this modern society, people tend to get married to celebrate the affection they have toward each other. I would agree that's not enough to get married; it's superficial and subjective.

Basically, in Japanese culture, marriage is a contract between families and their sense of duties to keep their lineage going. Even if they were happy or not, their sense of duties to their family keeps the marriage together; it was never about love and infatuation for the partner. Each culture is different, but how do you live with someone you can't stand? How much do they mentally suffer in that marriage? Do you think it's one of those reasons why marriage is less common in Japan now?
That sense of duty, what does it entail to keep a respectful, healthy marriage even though love is not present? Are the kids loved?

The dismantling of traditional roles, where Black men faced obstacles in providing and protecting their families. One of the main things in Japan is that Japanese don't typically marry until they can afford a proper home in a good neighborhood to raise children. With living costs rising with each generation, a lot of Japanese can no longer afford such homes. I think that is a dominating reason why marriage rates have plummeted in Japan even though divorce rates remain very low.
I have multiple friends who have had boyfriends/girlfriends for years with the dream of marrying, but they haven't been able to save enough money to do it. One of my closest friends like that is a bartender and his ultimate dream is to marry his girlfriend of over ten years now so that they can have children, but he's working every single night in his bar as well as a second job in a post office in the day and hasn't been able to make enough money to buy a proper family-friendly home.

With my parents in law who were arranged to be married, it's kind of depressing but my wife said she probably stopped having sex after kids. They never had that passionate desire for each other. Yet they have stuck together all these years and get along really well and seem to love each other in a very warm familial way. They adore their kids.
Something that concerns me is that I think Western feminism might have gone too far. I am completely in favor of women pursuing education and careers of their own. It's to society's benefit that we leverage skills wherever we find it; after all, it might be a woman who comes up with the cure for cancer.
Yet I think starting from the second-wave inspired by the likes of Beauvoir, there has been a tendency for feminism to veer towards an anti-marriage direction with marriage, at least in more traditional forms, considered an oppressive patriarchal institution rather than something cooperative and ultimately designed to do what's best for the children. Both newer waves of feminism and its extreme backlashes in the "manosphere" seem to neglect asking what's best for children. The self-proclaimed "alpha male" seems more interested in sleeping with as many women as possible than stick with one to help raise children, and the modern feminist seems to put career above family with an "I don't need no man" mindset. I think both are very corrosive to marriage rates and marriage stability.
I think the American black community has also been the most negatively impacted by these mindsets: both the most hyper-independent feminist mindset and its backlash in the manosphere. I think the cure for that is a return to some degree of conservatism and tradition, at least with respect to marriage and family values. I don't mean such rigid gender roles that men are the sole providers and women slave away in the kitchen; that seems ill-adapted to the needs of modern society. Yet valuing some degree of tradition and ultimately shared family values seems like it would help tremendously.

I'm not convinced that this is true any more - probably not for the last 30-40 years - but to the degree that it WAS true in the past, the reason is that these people tended to have more realistic expectations of what a relationship was - what they were going to GET from it and what they were expected to GIVE to it.
I think trash TV/"entertainment culture"/"reality" TV started the change, and then social media really kicked it into overdrive, so now that even poor, uneducated people (mostly but not exclusively women) expect to live a top 1% lifestyle, even when that's obviously never going to happen. In the past, people might have been poor and/or uneducated, but they weren't often delusional as so many are today. They didn't have other delusional people who were constantly telling them "you can have all this, and you DESERVE IT!", and without that, it was much harder to live in delusion before. Today, it's very easy to live in delusion, because a lot of social media will fully back your delusions and feed into them.
If by "uneducated" you mean working class, that's probably because they've learned to deal with what they are dealt with in life, they know that perfection is unobtainable, and "near enough is good enough", they are not "uneducated" by any stretch of the Imagination just because they do not have a piece of paper from certain "Educational Establishments", I have met self taught Electrical and Mechanical Engineers who can put College/University graduates to shame, and housewives who can give CPA's and Tax Lawyers a run for their money and more often than not beat them.
As for the "educated" ones they have a tendency to be self obsessed especially the women who think that the degree they bought at great expense entitles them to look down on the "uneducated", the women are pulling in a low 6 figure salary refuse to date/marry a man making a high 6 figure salary (owning his own business), just because he doesn't have a piece of paper from certain "Educational Establishments", and if they did date/marry a man making a high 6 figure salary, I'd guarantee that the woman would be the one who would break-up the relationship of file for divorce not the man (unless there was cheating involved then all bets would be off).

What's your source? In the US the statistics say the opposite. Marriages between two college gradates are more stable than marriages between non-college graduates.
It's mostly because the wife has more potential to earn money. Keep in mind that women initiate the vast majority of divorces.

If she has a job that's more respectable in her mind than her husband's job, it can inspire a lack of respect. A wife will be toxic to the marriage when she thinks that her husband is pathetic because of his underachieving job.
2. Divorce seems less dangerous financially
If an educated woman divorces, she is more likely to have a safe income stream than the uneducated woman.
For an uneducated woman to divorce, she has to plan to crash with friends or walk away with a solid amount of the family assets. It's riskier.
There may also be a slight component of educated husbands being more likely to be workaholics who neglect home life, but I hardly ever see it.
Being that races like Whites and Asians have the highest level of education on average and the lowest levels of divorce in contrast to Blacks who have the highest level of divorce and lowest levels of education, I'd have to say I'm not buying it.

Marriage is more about the emotional and financial load. Where work and education are things that can influence both, but are not exclusive.
If anything, most "educated" people don't really marry at all, as they are too old, or eccentric.
More accureately, marriages where the wife is highly educated are far more likely to end in divorce because 90% of divorces are initiated by educated women. The main reason is those women are more likley to be open to what they percieve as "better options". Stated another way, those women are less likely to take the commitment of marriage seriously.

Well I don’t know how true this is but supposedly divorce goes up more when a girl is highly educated. Especially if she’s making money. Because it’s easy for her to discard the man w the fact that she can pay her own bills, provide her own home, her own car, etc. So in her eyes she’s like why do I need you. Most divorces are initiated by women. Men not so much because for one they know they have to pay up the ass for a divorce lawyer or they’re going to get screwed even more.
I disagree, I believe to truly stay committed to another person and fulfill that promise to your spouse/yourself you have to be emotionally intelligent and willing to constantly learn and grow. It’s those who are unable to learn and grow who end up failing themselves and their spouse.

Women file the vast majority of divorces, so the real question is why educated women are more likely to divorce their husbands. The answer is that educated women are more likely to be feminist, and feminism teaches women to devalue marriage and commitment.
I would assume they are fully occupied in their stress and troubles. Since if you don't have much education you usually will struggle in life. Or they just feel they can't do any better.

One factor is that people with more education are more likely to have demanding jobs. Perhaps the stress leads to more arguments or more chances to meet other people.
