Why are some people so desperate for big money?

There was a story in the news about an athlete who hit his girlfriend until she went unconscious and she married him one year later because he had money.

There was a story in the news about a fired politician who spent 8 hours beating up his wife on video camera and his ex wife was with him for ten years.

I would not date a billionaire who insults me once a day and these girls put up with broken bones and bleeding scars just because the guy had money.

If they want money, why not dump the abuser and date an engineer or fire fighter? There will be no more diamonds but they will still have food and shelter.
