Is it rude to invite someone to an engagement party but not the wedding?

My neighbors invite me to their engagement party and I went. I ran into one of them this week and he said they’re picking wedding venues but nothing about me being invited. So I have no idea if I’d be invited but he volunteered this info about picking the venue without me asking.

No it’s their wedding so I wouldn’t take it personally. Some people choose to have small weddings or just invite close family as well as friends. If you’re really concerned just ask them about it but like I said it’s their wedding as long as you’re not seeing other signs of them giving you the cold shoulder then I wouldn’t worry about it.

Engagement parties traditionally signal the beginning of wedding festivities. Guests naturally assume they'll be included in the subsequent celebration.

Totally weird to split guests into different groups, never made sense to me. 🤷‍♂️
