That's nearly identical to saying child rape is legal in those states. Just because two teenagers are allowed to marry doesn't mean "general child marriage" is allowed. Unless I misunderstood what the other reply was saying.

For clarification around the child rape part, most states have an exception that says if you are within 1-3 years of age (varies by state), you can have sex. The lowest allowed age for having sex I believe is 14. As in, a 14 and 16 year old could have sex and it not be illegal in those states.

Those are minors, not children. They are not the same thing.

Also, a lot of the younger age states are conditional and only apply in limited cases.

The age is also subjective and changes over time. At one time those ages were completely normal for marriage. Even in my lifetime the average age of first marriage has increased about eight years.

No it's current law, although that chart is not completely accurate. However those are conditional ages that require a parent's consent or a court order.

Most countries in the world allow marriage under 18. But most are conditional like in the US.
