Should private citizens and private organizations be allowed to not recognize gay marriage?

Many have a strongly-held belief (like myself) that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

My state is passing a bill that will allow private citizens and private organizations to not recognize gay marriage.

Remember the constitution limits GOVERNMENT sanctions and responsibilities, it does not always apply to the individual. While the government itself may be required to recognize gay marriages, the individual shall not be required to do the same.

A Christian cake baker shall be allowed to refuse to bake a wedding cake for a gay wedding. A website developer should be able to refuse making a website for a gay wedding if it goes against their deeply held religious beliefs.

A faith-based organization may have an event for married couples and may want to exclude gay couples. That should be their decision to make!

A marriage counselor shall be able to deny services to a gay couple if it goes against their faith.

Gay rights shall never supercede religious liberty!

Why is religious liberty somehow more important than civil rights for gay marriage to exist? You can't just deny that we exist anymore than I can deny you exist. How would you feel if a business denied you service because they found out you supposedly follow the Christian bible (which I don't believe you do based on your questions and sordid past). You would be mad and scream about your liberty being violated. That's hypocritical.

It really depends on the context of the service or event being rendered. Does the event or service pertain to marriage and/or a practice of religious faith? Then yes, an individual or organization should be be allowed to not recognize it or provide services/products that support it.

Is the service or event something routine that would otherwise be available to anyone, such as getting food at a grocery store? That is different.

If it is strictly a private individual and a non-business transaction of some kind and a normal social situation, then individual rights and beliefs shall be exercised freely. You cannot force an individual to announce Mr. and Mr. or Mrs. and Mrs. and you cannot force private persons to recognize or use pronouns.

They weren't forcing him to marry them or even refer to them as mr and mr. They just wanted a wedding cake which in my opinion falls under the same as going to the grocery store.

A cake is a celebratory product as part of a wedding. A cake is usually a celebratory treat for most special occasions. The cake baker felt that if he were to make a cake for a gay wedding, he is a contributor to that occasion, thus he respectfully declined to partake in that due to his religious stance on the matter. At no point should any Christian or person of faith be compelled to contribute, promote, or partake in anything that is a violation of his/her sincerely-held beliefs.

You are asking for an outright civil war if you make those demands.

My religious liberties will not be infringed upon! Many of us are sick and tired of leftists trying to blur the lines and force this gay crap in our faces.

I am a web developer. I would gladly create a website for a gay person who wants to start a business for a pet supply shop. But if that same gay person wanted me to create a website for their gay wedding or a website for a gay dating app, I would outright refuse!

If leftists are not careful, they will push it too far and there will be a civil war or a crusade of some kind.

If a gay couple wants to be gay, that is on them. Do not compell me or any person of faith to promote, embrace, or participate in the sin.

Refusing to promote or participate in sin does not equate to belittling or an attempt to insult. You can respect someone as a person but not acknowledge or participate in their sin. If a gay person was injured, I would help him. If a gay person needed a website for their pet shop or plant shop, I would happily make them a website for that. But as soon as I am asked to create a website for a gay marriage or gay event, I would respectfully decline.

He's just mad at my other LGBT question where we debated about this topic so he made his own question. He believes religious liberty is somehow more important than other rights when it should be on an equal playing field. People like him are just bigots who would rather be hateful than love and accept his neighbors like the Bible says he should. Instead he listens to a misinterpreted part of the Bible and forgets he's not supposed to be judging.
