Why does he talk to me one day then not the next?

OK there is this guy I like he is in year 12 I am year 11 and he is leaving in two weeks to do exams. He used to like me but then we never went out cause he said he was trying to force himself not to like me cause year 12 was getting hard. Anyways one of my friends thinks he likes me again but I don't know cause he never comes and talks to me yet when I go up to him we will have a great conversation he will ask questions me to and it will just keep flowing. I also when walking past will say hi to him and he will always say back quiet kind of mumbling hi how are you and keep walking. also when around his guy friends he won't normally talk to me and when around some of his girl friends that he is used to being around when I am there he will talk to me in conversation. Also lol when he is around his guy friends he is always so outgoing but then when I get him one on one he is more quiet.

So he is going in 2 weeks what should I do and he only sees me as a friend right?

i should also mention he only talks to me online if I begin the conversation.3 weeks ago he said hey and then went offline that was weird and last holidays he was starting conversations and talking to me then I told him that I didn't like him anymore so he didn’t feel like he was leading me on all of the time but the truth is I still like him. Ever since I told him that he went funny kind of starting not replying to my messages but would still talk sometimes online until 3 4 weeks ago when he just said hey. Now he is talking to me again but not replying to my emails so yeah what’s going on here?
