"Hope to see you this summer!" What does it mean?

So I've known this guy for about five years. We were friends until a couple years ago we tried dating and it didn't work out. After that it was just really awkward and we never talked. About a year ago we did talk online (it was a group chat with mutual friends), and it wasn't awkward at all. Then the next day we all hung out, and he barely talked the entire time. After that we didn't talk for a long time (although from time to time he'll "like" my posts on Facebook). Then recently he messaged me on Skype to wish me a happy birthday and ask how I was doing. We talked for a while and at the end of it he said he hoped to see me this summer. Then a couple days ago I emailed him to ask him a question about something, and he replied by asking me how I was, answering my question and telling me to let him know if it worked out, and then saying he hoped to see me this summer. I just don't know what to think! He's so awkward around me that I thought he really didn't like me or something, but then he keeps saying this stuff. Help!

P.S. It's not that I think he likes me or anything, I just want to know if he actually wants to hang out, or if he's just saying that to be polite.

Don't read too much into it. It probably just means "Hope to see you this summer!". Guys aren't like girls. They don't send any hidden messages. He probably enjoyed talking to you and wants to do it again. But that's just what I think.
