When did you or your parents transition to a complete online shopping?

Just got delivered a sweater I ordered online. Seeing the amazing fit on my body ( not too loose, not too fit, just as she expected), my mom felt like shopping for her too. Online.

It was just 4 years back, my mom was very reluctant to purchase products online. But now, she insists online shopping only. Why? Because of the innovative and trendy designs they have.

So, when did you or your parents shift to complete online shopping?

Not even close to online here as no one delivers to home, they deliver to the town post office, which means I still have to go out to pick it up.

To return things is a huge pain though, if it needs to go back to UPS or Fedx, it means driving 80 miles into town to drop it off, they don't pick up from the post office.

I would switch if they would deliver right to my house and pick up returns right from there too.

I'm rural so no one gets home delivery, guess the delivery companies, even the post office, find it too much trouble to drive a hundred miles to deliver to so few and make us all pick up stuff.

Rural areas still face that problem. Here in India, the websites take the help of third party courier services to deliver the parcel.

My parents don't know how to shop online. My mother asked me to buy her some shoes and a phone cover. My sister bought her a vaccum cleaner, but she hasn't asked me for anything else.

I rarely shop online and when I do it's only for books. I prefer going to the store and seeing what I'm buying.

My mom asks me to search and buy for the whole family.
My dad believes that things are expensove in mega marts and malls. He is wrong but I have left him as he does not listen.
I and my mom go to malls to buy things. But most of the times, I just buy 98% of the things I want online.
Whether it a pacl of chips or anything. The hing is, where I live, they don't have what I like. In any category. So online it is then.
Even the delovery guys know me now.

I see, so online shopping is a big thing to you. I'm not very used to it. I would do the same as you if I didn't have what I liked near me.
Most of times I go to the local mall , if they don't have what I'm looking I go to another mall.

The Internet provides information. Information is power. If you're not informed, you're flying blind, and you're much more likely to get ripped off.

Sometimes I still do go into the store and buy the item in person after I find it on the store's website.

As far as when I made the transition? I think I started shopping online back in 2005.

I also make sure to double check prices for the same product through both online and offline channels. If I don't, I will be in a bubble, unbeknownst to myself.

I was in 11th when we started online shopping. It was around 2017-2018. But regular shopping started in 2018-2019.

Both of my parents don't have the time and energy to shop offline. So they just buy things online. Through my accounts. That is why I need Amazon Prime lol.

Most of mom's purchases are below 499 INR. And Amazon charges for the delivery below that amount for non-Prime customers. Prime is beneficial for us, as a family.

Same goes for Myntra and Flipkart too.

My parents haven’t transitioned either.

My mom considers the store like Disneyland ✨ lol. She loveees to walk all over.

My dad still orders using catalogs 😂.

I think most up-in-age adults, transition because of the entryway and leeway tech has in the household, from the kids. Also, the more “celeb stuff” parents will watch, the more they’ll become somewhat desensitized, or not so alert and defensive towards it.

That’s probably ONE of the reasons why, if not the only reason.

My and my family's shopping is entirely in real stores, in person. I'm trying to think if someone had ever ordered clothes online... I know I wondered how to do that because here it's not that easy to get things from overseas. It's a whole thing. I don't think anyone in my family (at least here in the country) ever has bought clothes online.

I have not transitioned to shopping exclusively online. There are some things that need to be felt, tried on, seen, etc. to judge the quality or insure a good fit. I am probably averaging about 100 online orders per year.

This is where the brands are taken a step up. They have set up showrooms just to feel and see the products. I see them everywhere.

People hardly purchase smartphones offline. Brands have setup such literal showrooms for that. Just see and feel the product and order online.

I don't think I'm at complete online shopping yet. I still really like stores but I do love online. We started in 2009 and we're probably at 90% purchasing online now, except for groceries.

Groceries, I believe, will be offline forever. As the minmum amount for an order to be profitable for the platform will never be reached. Because grocery purchases are sometimes too abrupt to be planned for a big one order to be made.

Indian start-ups are burning investments to acquire customers, and then charging platform fee to earn. Pushing the customers away, again. The push and pull goes on.

Here in the U. S. online groceries are a big thing. What has not been even close to made easy in my opinion in the U. S. is the ease of online grocery shopping. It isn't fast, intuitive, or easy. And it's full of unknowns. Much faster for me to go to the shop.

Yes! Much easier to go to the shops! Accessible, fresh, you get to see and feel them.

I really do believe that perishable goods should be bought through offline modes only.

I usually go to the store to buy stuff unless it is a real specialized item you cannot find in the store. The last thing I bought online was replacement blades for my electric razor.

Not there yet, but mostly. Groceries are iffy, because local grocers' prices are generally far less - things like a loaf of bread are double from Fresh/Whole Foods/Bristol Farms online.

Groceries should be offline, I believe. The online platform business is not sustainable for grocery.
It is a different thing if the local seller creates a website for ordering and all, but a platform will not be able to sustain for long.

I did during the pandemic
Spent more money and made less profit

Now I check prices between on and offline and work out where I can get the best deal so online a big enough order might be free delivery or something might earn exchangeable points so be worth it but if walking in and paying cash is cheaper than I'll take that route

We all still shop at stores I only ever shop online when it comes to things I legitimately can't get where I live.

I myself prefer to shop at stores rather then online.

I buy books online or second hand.

I buy groceries in person but thinking of switching to online.
