Is it ok to give baked goods as gifts from now on?

It was ok to give gifts at first, when I only had 3 friends. Now I have 6 friends; 2 of whom I have to ship gifts to, as they’re overseas. Gift giving is getting really expensive and crazy. I’m wondering, as I’m a good baker, if I should just bake a cake or muffin cakes for my friend’s birthdays and for Christmas from now on? It would save me $400 at least a year on gift giving, as I’m actually quite poor. I also want to give better gifts, like significant amounts of money to my parents, who’d never expect anything, but who need the money. Maybe flowers to both my aunts in future and whatever small things I can find for my cousin. Like books, second hand good quality jewellery, or a nice top.

Baked goods are absolutely acceptable gifts. Also, the quality of the guy has nothing to do with how much you spent and everything to do with how it connects with that person. Getting an inexpensive gift that connects with my interests and my life shows me a person knows me and care about me where getting an expensive gift that has no connection to who I am sure me a person was just wasting money.

Are you also receiving gifts from these people? What kind of gifts?

Everyone remembers me on my birthday and Christmas. They give really extravagant gifts and I feel like I should do the same. But baked goods are just as nice, but cheaper.

Yes baked goods can make awesome gifts however I feel like it’s not fair to ”allow” them to put a lot of money into your gifts if you’re not doing the same. Even though gifts shouldn’t be about the things but about the thought and goodness behind it some people do care about the monetary value behind it and don’t want to put in more money than the other person does. So for that reason I think you should talk about this with them and tell them you can’t afford to get them as expensive gifts anymore and they don’t have to do it for you either. Maybe even decide on a spending limit together for gifts. Like for expample it can’t cost more than $10 or $20 or whatever limit you guys feel is right. Then if they still get you more expensive gifts knowing you won’t do the same then that’s their choice.
