Today I swallowed some amount of water when I was taking a shower.. Is shower water safe?
Generally your house's water is filtered and chemically treated before it enters your home. It doesn't matter if it's from a municipal source or from a well. That said, if the local water is hard, and is treated with a water softener, ion exchange of calcium for sodium would make the basic tap water slightly salty. If you were to drink that repeatedly on a regular basis it would be bad for your health. To much sodium can impact heart health. The same goes for municipal water that is hyper-chlorinated. City water is hyper-chlorinated due to delivery pipes being coated in biofilms. As a result, there are unhealthy levels of chlorine compounds in delivered water as well as other halogen like fluorine which can promote cancer over long periods of time. If you drink a small amount, it's not the end of the world, but if it's a regular habit over time it will negatively impact your health.

+1 yShower water comes from the same source of water your kitchen tap water comes from. If you live in a good area where your tap water is safe to drink, then it's fine. It might not have the best taste depending on how much chlorination your public water system goes through.
In my opinion, the best tasting water you can have is usually filtered water from the filtered containers. Just pour your tap water into that and leave it in the fridge until it's cold and you'll notice a pretty big change in its taste.00 Reply

You can make changes to it by having water specialists who can come to your home to test your water and tell you if you wanna make changes to the filter. Or you can also get your own filter for shower heads including sink water :)

+1 yYou can yes. But I wouldn't recommend it. Better to have fresh water through a filter. Like from your fridge or a water filter pitcher like this:

I mean, with my water in the house you can pretty much drink any of it. Sink water, fridge water, hose water, and shower/bath water.

+1 yIn the U. S., yes. If I were traveling though I would definitely avoid drinking any water from taps. The people who live there have developed the capacity to resist the pathogens that often make less indigent countries tap water potable. I have gotten violently ill on at least 3 continents from accidentally tap water.
If you happened to get a little water in your mouth accidentally that is most likely harmless but don't use it as a regular beverage.
The main reason for the consumption of been and wine- and later spirits- was the result of industrial age pollution lack of potable water.00 Reply Technically, yes. Will it kill you? Unlikely, unless your pipes double as a bacteria breeding ground. Should you make it a habit? Probably not. But hey, life's full of risks. Some climb mountains, others drink shower water. Choose your adventure wisely, my friend, and remember: it's not just water, it's a journey through the plumbing underworld. Cheers!
00 ReplyShower water, at first glance, seems like the less glamorous cousin of tap water. Same source, right? Not quite. The pipes, dear friends, the pipes are where the plot thickens. You see, the pipes leading to your showerhead might not be as pristine as you'd hope. They're the plumbing equivalent of that dodgy uncle at family reunions. You know the one.
00 Reply4.7K opinions shared on Other topic. The water that comes out of the shower head has usually just traveled about 6 feet further down the same pipe that feeds the sink you brush your teeth in. It's fine, at least in 1st-world countries.

+1 yWith all the building codes today, like you have to have 4 nails in every roof shingle, I guess they forgot the one about not piping shit water into your house.

+1 yShower water is tap water. If tap water in your area is not considered safe for consumption I would not advise you to drink it. If it was a one time thing is most likely not going to cause any harm to your health.

+1 yIts the same water that goes to your kitchen sink so it depends on if thats drinkable or not. In most cases tap water is filled with chlorine, ammonia, lead, fluorine, amd other toxic substances, so probably not unless you have a good filter.
00 Reply 2.2K opinions shared on Other topic. I do it all the time. Mostly the only way I just drink actual water lmao. It's not any different to water you get from a tap to put in a kettle.

00 Reply1.5K opinions shared on Other topic. it's the same water as you drink, there isn't a difference, unless somehow you drank some of your own rinse water, then it had soap in it, but that won't hurt you either.

u +1 yObviously it depends on the country or better even county, where the water in question is sourced from. Bangladesh is not Switzerland.

But usually I'd guess it's as safe as tapwater.00 ReplyHey, if it's good enough to clean my body, it's good enough to quench my thirst!
