Are the 2019 Jeep Cherokees good cars?

I am thinking about buy a 2019 Jeep Cherokee but I have been reading things online that kind of make me question if it’s a good idea. I read there has been recalls and some people say they are not reliable. But I see many of them on the road and a lot of people do say they are reliable. Are they good cars, should I get one?

Jeeps in general are not all that reliable. But they do still have a pretty strong fan base. Ultimately it depends on what you are looking for in a car. If you want a jeep, get a jeep. If you want reliable get a Toyota.

Jeep is short for: Just Empty Every Pocket. Jeep has a fan following, but my husband had one; it was a money pit and overall unreliable. I haven’t heard many good things about them.

How was it a money pit and unreliable? What problems did your husband face?

It would quit running on the highway quite a few times. The techs never could figure out what was causing it, despite using state of the art diagnostics. It also had front end vibration issues, requiring a lot of labor and parts that cost plenty, but even after factory engineers looked at it and thought they had it resolved, it kept recurring. It ended up being towed more miles than it was getting driven. It was a 2019 and he religiously followed the maintenance schedule, so it certainly wasn’t neglect. He wasn’t getting out of the shop for less than $800 for each trouble visit.

Wow. When he got rid of the Jeep what vehicle did he get?

He got a Subaru Outback. He shopped around quite a bit, did loads of research and I stayed out of it. It was his car, his decision, but I strongly suggested not getting another Jeep 😊

My son has a 2020 and he loves it. It has the V8 and is a very good vehicle in the snow and on the beach. He drives it about 500 miles a week and has had no problems so far.

Yes, when I was looking for a new truck I took out a Grand Cherokee just for fun. The six cylinder is underpowered but the V8 was really nice. It was sort of pricy and the dealer would not budge much on the price so I ended up with a Ford F-150

The only "bad" thing I've heard about Jeeps in general and other high ground clearance vehicles is the higher possibility of a rollover in a sudden turn situation.

The vehicles with a high ground clearance have a higher "center of gravity", so it takes less force- centrifugal force or other- to turn the vehicle over. Here is some info for you -

"WHAT IS THE CENTER OF GRAVITY?
The center of gravity of any vehicle is the point that sums up the vehicle’s mass in one central point. To put it simply, it is the average location of the weight of an object.

In the human body, the center of gravity is somewhere around the second sacral vertebra. In your car, it is usually somewhere just ahead of the center point of your car.

WHY DOES THIS MATTER WHEN DRIVING?
Your vehicle’s center of gravity comes into play most often when the car is making a turn. When you drive around a turn, particularly at higher speeds, the momentum of your vehicle transfers the load which causes the body of the car to lean in that direction. That’s why in a car with a higher center of gravity, taking a turn at a high rate of speed can cause the car to flip over — the center of gravity isn’t able to compensate for the body lean, and the car falls over.

You can control the lean in your vehicle by either lowering the center of gravity or widening the wheel base of the car. Things like springs, anti-roll bars and roll center heights are also useful tools to prevent rollover and reduce lean.

Track cars, ones like the Mustang or the Focus RS that are designed to take turn at high speeds, have a lower center of gravity that helps them hug the ground when while they’re turning. The low center helps to compensate for the inevitable lean they experience while turning.

Big vehicles designed for off-roading like the F-150 or the Jeep Wrangler, on the other hand, have a wide wheel base that helps to compensate for the body lean when they’re turning. Interesting trivia. The "JEEP" name was coined from the term G. P.- General Purpose- when these vehicles were made for use in the military. GP was just shortened phonetically to jeep.

@exitseven then you really don't want to buy any "US" car brand like GM or Ford. They're making those things in China and Mexico. Nissan and Toyota have actual plants in the US like Tennessee, Kentucky and South Carolina.

They closed Hamtrank temporarily but it is still open. My wife;s Ford Escape has a sticker on the windshield that says it was built in some plant in Kentucky and my Pickup truck has one that says it was built in Kansas City.
