It might be adequate. It might not.

If he likes the specific artwork you chose, maybe. If he has room to hang it, maybe.

Here's the problem: you always tell us you buy artwork. That's a thing for you. For $50 you could get two books a gift certificate to a place for dinner, a bottle of liquor, or some movie tickets. Sooooo much more you could buy.
