Why does it seem to be acceptable for guys to work in the women's shoe departments but not in other departments?

I have made an observation. Why is it considered acceptable for guys to work in lady's shoe departments in your brick and mortar stores? They don't work in other clothing departments including accessories. A very few work in cosmetics, but they are usually our brothers who may be obviously interested in such things. So, what do you think? I am somewhat puzzled.

Society is WEIRD when it comes to men and women's clothing. Any involvement whatsoever is seen as "creepy", like he's only doing it for some sexual reason. Now, a lot of men ARE strongly drawn to women's clothing because of its strong association with women, and the appeal women have for men can extend even to their accessories, if they're different enough from men's equivalents. While this is odd, it's understandable, if you think about it; if you can't have a woman, you at least want the next closest thing.

Of course, most men don't have those motivations and are just trying to do their jobs, but the association in the public mind gives a powerful incentive to look elsewhere. Even something as simple as proposing bra designs that are more comfortable for long-term wear can earn ire. There was an entire episode of Father Ted about this.

I'm reminded of one point where a friend showed me video footage of a newly designed sports bra, that featured a woman with probably D-cup breasts doing gymnastics-type stuff on a trampoline, and getting almost ZERO bounce. A VERY impressive technical achievement, and potentially a source of great comfort for millions of women, but eventually a passing woman saw what we were looking at and dismissed as "just ogling bouncing breasts"- which was in fact the EXACT OPPOSITE of what we were doing.

Most men see it all as not worth the hassle.

In my opinion, one possibile reason for this is the benefit that being at a woman's feet can potentially provide for all concerned, because of the humble nature of such an act.
