What kinds of gifts should I give my oldest friend?

My oldest friend has expensive tastes but a small apartment and is an expat, with a little girl. I was wondering if a crystal flower is appropriate for my friend’s birthday gift, early next year, or if the daughter is likely to break it? She’ll be about eight by next year.

If she is low on space, a knick-knack seems like it wouldn’t be the best idea. For someone who has limited space, the best choice for a gift is something disposable, so it won’t last as long.

You say she has expensive tastes. Do you know what any of her favorite brands are? If so, a good gift would be a gift set with spray and lotion. Even a mini-size gift set in one of her favorite expensive brands would be a very nice gift. Something like Chanel comes to mind.

It's the thought behind the gift that counts. Not it's cost and if she is really your best friend a painted rock would mean just as much to her as $500 gift.

Well it can break then the pieces around…. If it wasn’t a small apartment with a kid running around, it would be a good idea.

Maybe a new necklace or bracelet or other piece of jewelry would be nice, she could keep the crystal flower in a safe spot though I don't know if it is appropriate given the situation, I don't know.

At 8 she should have the ability to understand the significance of it and not mess with it.
