I have just spent a ton of money replacing major things in my house before i retired. I replaced all my windows and doors, I had all my siding replaced with treated cedar shingles. I also had all my trim replaced with PVC. No painting needed. I got new gutters and had my bulkhead replaced since it was dented and rusting and was never installed correctly. I got a new high efficiency furnace and had central air conditioning installed. I replaced my sump pump which I installed in a trash barrel I buried in my basement. I bought a plastic sump and a submergible pump. I bought a new refrigerator, stove, dish washer and microwave oven. I even replaced the old refrigerator I had in my basement with a new one and replaced my freezer too. Last winter a tree fell on my shed and destroyed it. Instead of building a new one myself I bought a larger one from a local company. I also removed all the decking boards from my deck and replaced them with PVC. No more painting. We had the floors in our kitchen dining room and family room replaced with hardwood. Itis like a brand new house.

I had my last stove for so long hole rusted through the bottom of the oven. I was going to weld a piece of sheet metal over it but my wife put her foot down and made me buy a new one.

We got this stove when we first got married. It was Harvest Gold which nobody makes anymore. I could care less about the color but our refrigerator and dishwasher were white so she wanted a white stove. . If that stove is so old that you cannot get parts for it , it must be really old/ . Time to put it in a museum.

The carpet in our entire house. It's 23 years old now. It's not in bad condition except at the doors to our guest bedroom and guest bath. We had cats in the past that we locked in those rooms at night and they tried to dig their way out by reaching under the doors and tearing up the carpet. Monsters.

That's an expensive proposition. When we dormered the price of carpeting, tile, hardwood floors put ME on the floor! I said to the missus that exposed plywood doesn't look that bad does it?

Not exactly the master bedroom carpet, since my house is pretty much all hardwood floors, but the carpet on the stairs needs to go. I just haven't figured out what to replace it with yet. I swear I'll get around to it. At some point. Sooner or later.

Can never go wrong with natural wood. Not a fan of carpeted stairs. The high traffic is just trouble.
