Where/ how is the best route to go about getting a new bed?

Depends entirely on your concern.

Comfort? Just try a bunch and buy based on your feelings and reviews.
Transport? Bribe a friend or pay for it, or so it yourself. Comes down to being honest with yourself.

Price? Beds have notoriously high markups after production, not at all rare that they mark it up 400%. And is an equally notorious industry for naming the same mattress 40 different things at 40 different prices. If at all feasible, cut out the middle hand and buy from the producer for a fraction of the price.

What I did was find a man, a very gay man, with a Masters Degree in Interior design. He picked out the bed, one thing led to another, and he was doing the night stands, the walls, the chairs, the plants. But, what the hell, can you really just "get a new bed?" No, just face it, you're getting a new bedroom.

Go in person and try a bunch to see which feels best. If the store tries to give you the bum's rush, leave and find one that wants your business and will allow you to take your time.

Go to a national chain bed store, in person ; with a fancy display room out the front - tell them what you're looking for - single + double + Queen + king ; Californian lol 😂 😆

I don't know what country brands you have - hell, Walmart even? Do they sell beds? Target? Etc? Etc?
