I buy things on Amazon and sometimes I have to return something, like everyone. I don't abuse it but it's nice that it's there. I've been on Amazon for around 10 years and spent quite a lot of money there.
I just got an e-mail that something I bought and returned wasn't the item I had bought. It was, I don't have any other item like that and it was the exact same one I bought, in the original packaging, and still in brand new condition.
They said no it wasn't, took the money back from me, and are not sending the “wrong” item back to me because they say they don't keep track of them after they're returned. They don't take a photo of items as they receive them back, which could settle the whole issue right away, though I know the whole process must be captured on security cameras.
From now on, I will be taking photos of items I send back. Realistically, I think this whole operation needs to go on a degree of trust, and if they find someone repeatedly not sending back the correct item, they cut them off or something.
I went online and found out this happens to thousands of people, with no recourse. Amazon always says no, you didn't send back the item you bought, we're taking the money back from you and we're not sending the item back to you.
My thing was about $50, but one guy had something that cost $500 and they gave him this same runaround. He was out the $500, out the item, and that was it. He ended up canceling his Amazon account, not being able to buy things or have access to their TV shows and movies.
If it happens to me one more time, I'm no longer going to buy items where there is a possibility that I might have to return it for some reason. That would mean I'd be buying about 75% less than I do now. I would buy a book, but I wouldn't buy a piece of clothing, for example. That defeats the entire purpose of Amazon, for them in terms of making money, and for me having easy and formerly hassle-free access to buying things.

I've never had that happen before to me. I like Temu better. If you have to return something and ask for a refund, they will offer you a partial or full refund. If partial, you don't have to return the item. In fact, they also do that often with you getting a full refund as it is cheaper than having to pay for the item being shipped back to them.
I boycott this monstrosity called Amazon, but I seem to remember in various forums that tricks like this are increasingly used to recuperate operating costs.
No. Returning something is more hassle than it is worth.
This is another one for the "why the hell was this posted anonymously" file.
I get 500 dms when I use my name. I take the anonymous off later.
I have only had to send something back to Amazon once. I really did not expect to get credit for it but I did.
How do I return to pillows from Amazon? It’s all wrapped in plastic real tight and they’re king size pillows when they become unwrapped It’s really not worth the trouble
