Sure.
I've purchased quite a few things on ebay over the years.

Years ago, on bid style auctions before I learned the ropes, on a few occasions I'd get into bidding wars with people, driving prices up.
I quickly realized that by waiting to the very last second, then submitting a bid that I know would be my highest regardless of any other considerations, I avoided the bidding wars and usually got my items at a much lower price than my high bid anyway.
I've never lost an item to another higher bidder.

Those who hate my tactic call it bid-sniping, saying that it prevents others from then bidding higher than me.
Duh, that's the point.
My response to that line of thinking is that everyone is free to submit their highest bid at the last second, as well as me.
Others call it sniping, I call it being smart.

I have purchased many antique tools on eBay. My new purchases have been limited to items like monthly flea/tick treatment for my cats, and auto parts. I haven't purchased any clothing or shoes on eBay.

Not lately, but over the last 20+ years I have sold around 200 items and bought around 50 items on eBay. Almost all transactions were hassle-free.

Yes. Some great deals, but unfortunately too many shady sellers so I use multiple levels of protection - PayPal, credit card, but one that is connected to a bank account, so three ways to challenge if there is a problem.

Yeah but I don't recommend it. Takes forever to get your order delivered. I shopped there 3 times and each time it took like a month to receive my order while any other place takes a few days to maximum a week.

  Don't laugh. Girls custom made hair barrettes, clips, ponys, etc.
  
  I also shit I have lying around the house that's junk to me - CDs, DVDS, clothes kids outgrew, their sports kit, tools, regifts, electronics, etc. We usually clear $2-3K a year and tidy the house at same time!
