What was the novel "Fight Club"'s intended audience?

I feel as though, it was more male centered due to some of the things said in the book and the general nature of the concept of a fight club. I feel as though it is also centered towards young adults.
Although females could enjoy the book as well; one of my friends read it and really enjoyed it.

Just want to get other people's opinions.

I love love LOVE that book, and the film.
I'm a big fan and quote it way too often :-P

It, no doubt, appeals to young men the most. The very fact that it's a fight club pushes the reader to try to understand what fighting is and what it CAN mean, other than just being about simple disputes - the need to release the excess testosterone that society tells men to suppress to fit in with what they think is a more civilized society. Fight club is a rebellion against that modernized civilization... embracing chaos.

Many women were offended by it, calling it a misogynist piece because of the way Marla's character was written. There were even protests and bans from book stores for those reasons. Sensitive witches, if you ask me, haha!

It was also incredibly misunderstood, with many readers thinking it was a salute to Fascism, not realizing it was actually a satire trying to shine a light on the absurdity of Fascism, haha! Oh, the stupidity... "I am Jack's complete lack of surprise." :-)

I would have to agree. I think the primary audience is young adults, specifically male. I say this because there is a lot of physical violence and camaraderie which may not appeal to the ladies.
