The Things That I Am

I recently shared a poem I wrote titled "The Things I'll Never Be", well in the same day that I came up with that one I also decided to write one about all the things I am and hope to be. So, now I want to share that one. It's called The Things That I Am

I'm the girl who's

shy and quiet

I'm the girl who's

mostly self-reliant

I'm the good who

has good perception

I'm the girl who

likes to ask questions

I'm the girl who's

often curious

I'm the girl who

might seem mysterious

I'm the girl who

puts others before herself

I'm the girl who's

always around to help

I'm the girl who's

weird and unconventional

I'm the girl who's

fairly traditional

I'm the girl who's

witty and sarcastic

I'm the girl that

never feels fantastic

I'm the girl who

has a good heart

I'm the girl who's

in her own way smart

I'm the girl that's

sweet, kind & caring

I'm the girl who

wants to get married

I'm the girl who

feels destined to be a mother

I'm the girl who wants

to have the love of another

There's many things I am

There's many things I wish to achieve

I'm the girl that hopes

she'll get to fulfill her dreams

Well, there is no flow. Sure, some may argue that "it doesn't matter cuz it's expression of thought and feeling..." but poetry is as much a craft as drawing. You can draw stickmen or you can use techniques that will essentially make the poem have a rhythm, structure and flow. Something that is pleasant to read.

Actually, if you enter a poetry contest most say they prefer it didn't rhyme and most poetry doesn't.

rhymes are overrated. it can still be a great poem without rhyme. it can't be a good poem without a rhythm
