What do you think of the name Zephyr for a boy?

- OK here is an honest opinion so hold on. It sucks. I'm sure he will hate it as he gets older. Boys like to blend in. Girls are different and your thinking like one. Girls like stand out names , that is why they come up with the different spellings like Jeniphyr for Jennifer or Lynda for Linda. Guys don't want to be different. Give him a good strong masculine old fashioned name, Mike, Joe, Tom, Jake, he'll thank you later when you tell him you were going to name him something stupid like Zephyr. Is this still revelant?
I think Zebulon is more of a biblical name and you can get a way wiith that in parts of the US.
- Sounds like evil movie corporation or a sci-fi artifact. Umm.. It does sound really cool, but there's possibility that the kid is going to get picked on because of it.Is this still revelant?
AHA! I was wondering why that name was so familiar.. It's the name of the skateboarding group that made skateboarding popular and street credible. Now I'm really liking the name!
I didn't know that about the skateboarding... I've always loved skateboarding... my 2 yr old rides one down the street lol... I am even more glad I chose his name now

Cool! I recommend watching Lords Of Dogtown. It actually tells about the group and the main guys who revolutionized the sport.
League of Legends is one of the most, if not the most, popular online games in the world. Zephyr is also a type of item in Final Fantasy (Zephyr Mantle, Zephyr Cape, Zephyr fan etc)-- perhaps you have at least heard of FF. It's also the key word in many traveling related companies as it's origins means wind. Probably not the best name choice just FYI. But in Freakonomics, a guy named one son Winner and another Loser.. Winner lived a life of crime and was in and out of jail frequently and Loser grew up to be a successful businessman.. So a bad name isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Thanks for the explanation... I was just wondering others opinion since I live in a small close minded town... probably should of made this a poll to tell the outcome easier... meh

- I think he would get made fun of in school and have a lifetime of people not pronouncing his name properly. Go for a more common, pronounceable name or you're setting him up for failure. Studies show children with odd names are more likely to have low self esteem because people can't remember or pronounce their names and they make fun of them.
Don't make your child a target. Is this still revelant?I already named my son... his dad is named Zebulon and he never got made fun of... we wanted something as unique that also started with a Z. My name is Raine, pronounced like Rain, but I sometimes tell people its something else, just cause I had a nickname when I was little that morphed into something else and it just stuck... I never got made fun either
i just asked for peoples opinion... don't understand how he's going to be made fun of and nobody can give me a good answer... my names Raine not Rane
- Show All Show Less
Raine is actually a very rare first name for a girl... its weird your sister would have the same name... kinda neat I guess
I suppose. It's Latin. Latin names are common. Because kids make fun of other kids for being different or odd or having anything "weird". It's a fact of life. Odd, hard to spell and pronounce names are "weird".
i was always told it was German and means mighty army or something like that... my moms side of my family is very German
huh... I don't know what that has to do with anything... my mom is from Germany, hence the relevancy of me mentioning that lol
English is Latin based. Just FYI. Don't be so offended my god.
And I don't see what you being German has to do with anything. I'm Irish doesn't mean my parents have to name me Shannon.Of course its based on Latin lol I mentioned being German cause that's where my name came from because the reason I asked my original question was about names, right? People on the internet don't offend me... ever lol your comment seemed a bit snotty and I was just stating facts
"Are you in Ancient Rome?" So you're either mentally inept or you were snotty first. Don't give me that "you sounded snotty" bullshit.
You asked if I was in Germany cause I mentioned German so I mentioned Rome cause you mentioned Latin... I never intended to start shit... your own words, don't get so offended... my god lol
- i think it would be a good name when they were young, the most important thing is to think about whether it will still sound good when they are 30, i think Zephyr is an awesome name though! Is this still revelant?
- I don't know how that is pronounced but I think Zafir would be a good name for a boy.Is this still revelant?
ZEF-ar... red hot chili peppers have a song called Zephyr, YouTube it... I sing that to him all the time lol

621- I was somewhat wondering if the high school assholes would claim that the name is feminine, but to be honest, not really, and even if they did, it wouldn't really matter. It's a cool name, especially if people will call him "Zeph". That's so cool, haha.React

- First thing i think of when I read "Zephyr" is the item from League of Legends haha. Personally I don't like it, but that doesn't mean it's not a decent name.React

- Reminds me of pokemon. The Zephyr Badge. It's unique. Kinda badass. Only thing is, he might get made fun of in early schooling because it is a strange name. He's also gonna have to tell everyone how to pronounce it, which might be annoying for him.React

People say he's going to be teased... like what could people say? His dad and I are both attractive and I get compliments on his all the time... we both eat healthy and are not super fit but in good shape, so he's not going to be fat... we make really good money... so what would they tease him about?
kids are mean. if he is popular or one of the "pretty people" then there are different rules for them... they will probably think it is unique. in the end it doesn't matter if others think it is a horrible name, if you like it, and your ok with your son being stuck with it for his whole life, then that is what you should do. Maybe you give him a more normal middle name. so worse case he can go by his middle name. or he can be an initial kid. My ex wife wanted an initial kid. so our youngest is Devn Jon but we call him DJ... you could do ZJ or whatever...
- sounds like a equipment on League of Legends.
If you put a pool with names, put Son Goku or Gohan as option. one of those both will definitely winReactLike

Like what type of shit? Before I named him I tried to think of how he could get made fun of and couldn't come up with anything... and I'm pretty good at insults
Zephyr blimp, name may also be interpreted as kind of feminine (even though it has basis in Zephyrus, God of Winds but High schoolers don't know that shit).
He'll probably be referred to as "Zeph," it's a harder stop name and sounds more masculine, the final "phyr" kind of makes it sound soft. Just going by how the name slips off the tongue and what comes to mind.

I thought about the whole blimp thing but his dad and I both don't have any problem with our weight and are pretty healthy and don't think he will either
- And here I am wanting to name my first son after the Aztec Underworld.
