Where do deaf people hang out?

Ok so first off I don't mean to be offensive at all. I was watching Switched at Birth(2 girls were switched at birth, one of them is deaf) today and I realized that I have never met a deaf person. Basically what I'm asking is if deaf people hang out in the same places hearing people do ..... I hope I don't sound rude :( I'm really just curious.

My ex boyfriend was deaf, and yes deaf people hang out in places hearing people would. He was quiet and kept to himself, but when we were dating he would go to the mall with me (it would be hard if he was ordering food or something because he would sometimes have a hard time understanding what they're saying). We also went to the movies together believe it or not, because they give you this small machine that you can insert into the cup holder of the chair that shows captions for the movie playing. :)

Many deaf people like to plan gatherings and events. I have gone to a couple for Sign Language class. They pick places like Starbucks and other public outings.

I have a few deaf friends and they are no different than other people when it comes to where they hang out (at least my friends arent)...

I met one through my job, he was a costumer of mine and we ended up becoming really good friends. Through him a met a few other deaf people and well we all just hit it off :P

They have these places called deaf clubs, that are exclusively for deaf people. When you get to the entrance, you are forced to sit down and take a hearing test, and you have to score really poorly in order for them to let you in.

This is why you have never met a deaf person.

I've only met a few deaf people but they are just normal people and like to hangout where we do. The only difference with being friends with deaf people is that you have to remember to look right at them when you're talking to them so they can read your lips easily

Funny thing I know deaf people and have a limited grasp of sign language. When we meet up their hands are going 90 miles an hour and they have to stop every so often to explain to me what they are talking about.

Generally the same places. I have a friend that's deaf that I met at the bar. We get hammered, pantomime ridiculous stuff and laugh our asses off.

There are Deaf social clubs and hangouts. People who are culturally Deaf (note the capital D) live in a Deaf world, which you probably wouldn't be aware of any more than you'd know where the rock climbers, knitters or AD&D groups go to meet up.

Yes, people who are deaf will go to the same places people who are hearing hang out sometimes, but the language barrier tends to mean they keep to themselves.

I never said that they should hang out somewhere else, on Switched at Birth there's a school for deaf people and I've never ever run into a deaf person myself, so I don't know much about deaf people which is why I was asking...

I'm hard of hearing, so I'm on a lesser degree of deaf. I would say for me I usually try hanging out in the same places that hearing people do. However, because I work night shift, I don't go out much.

Maybe they hang out like at a special class or something or you never see them.

They would do the same things as other people, but might also go to group meeting with others who are deaf.
