What's with the stereotype of a hot flight attendant?

Why do they have to look good? Are they usually hot? I haven't been on a plane before so i wouldn't know.

In the early days of air travel, they were absolutely hired based on looks. They had strict weight limits, age limits and were not permitted to be married. over the decades, those restrictions have all been thrown out, at least in the 'first world' countries. developing world you're more likely to see things the way they used to be.

I find it depends on the airline. New or or economy airlines seem to have younger and sexier flight attendants. Airlines that I've been around for a long time usually have the more experienced flight attendants if you know what I mean. The ones who have been working for the same company for 10 or 20 years.

The idea of a 'hot flight attendant' is almost like a 'hot p*rn star'. They don't always exist. Many flight attendants are pretty, but that's because they have to present themselves well, as they are serving the people on board and be respectful.

Depends on the airlines. Emirates, Thai airways, JAL, Korean airline, cathay and NZ , the women are eye candy.

The hot F/A is a stereotype and does not reflect reality. It is a tough job that pays lousy at times depending on the airline. F/As reflect society now... male, female, hot, not but they are there to get your ass out of the fire (literally) not to be eyecandy.

I don't know if they do it on purpose but from my experience the young and attractive stewardesses always work in 1st class. The coach stewardesses are usually older. I have seen a lot of attractive stewardesses so like most stereotypes it's partially true

The female flight attendants I know where the most make up of any profession I've come across and some look really good because of it

it's an old stereotype from the 80's, and it used to be true. The problem is that it's still the same girls working as flight attendants. So now they are in their 50's.

They tend to pick the hot ones, I guess it's to do with being immaculate and presentable as the face of the company.
