Why all the hate on skinny girls?

I notice on GAG a lot of people mak fun of gals being skinny. Or in polls. People say that girl looks like a skeleton or real ladies are curvy. So you guys really think that someone isn't a real woman if she's skinny? Or that being skinny is ugly? I'm just confused. because I'm skinny and in real life I get a lot of attention and compliments about my body from people all the time. And I see people talk on here about how bigger girls are more attractive. It's just so weird how different this website is then real life.

To understand this question, you have to understand how the advertising model works in conjunction with modern capitalism, as it's actually what is driving this behaviour.

Capitalism needs people buying lots of products, all the time. Especially products they don't really need. And if the product is a consumable, that you have to buy over and over again, then it's perfect. Advertising is designed to convince you that you need to go and buy these non-essential products. And advertising is hyper-intelligent. It uses every psychological trick in the book to convince you that you want to buy the products. And one of the best ways to get you to buy consumable products is to make you feel unhappy with yourself. Particularly with your body. Unhappy people buy more, because they hope the 'stuff' will make them feel happy. People unhappy with their body buy the most.

In the first half of the 1900s, there were a couple big wars, times were tough, it could be challenging to eat 'healthy', so it was 'easy' to be skinny. It was a simple byproduct of malnutrition. So all of the ads were about how real women had curves and nobody wanted to look like a beanpole. It was unfeminine.

Second half of the 1900s were a time of relative prosperity. It became ridiculously easy to get easy calories. So it became easy, and cheap, to be 'not skinny'. Too easy. The obesity problems started kicking in. Suddenly, to make people feel bad about themselves, you couldn't tell them to 'no be thin'... instead you needed to tell them 'fat looks unhealthy... be skinny! Super thin is super hot!'... because now it was hard to be super skinny. Everything was full of excessive calories. Runway models started looking anorexic, like they were heroin junkies.

Now you are getting girls growing up more health conscious, so they are maintaining a better weight from an early age. So now they need it to be 'curves, but fit, but ass, but firm'. A Frankenstein combination that is hard to naturally achieve.

yanno, i find all bodies amazing. truthfully! i have a dear friend on another site and some tell her she is 'too skinny' and to 'eat something'. trust me, she does! she just naturally has a thin body. i find her amazingly beautiful. i am a 'body positive' type of person. every single person has attributes, physically and mentally, that make them beautiful. i don't use the term 'curvy' to describe MY body. i am FAT. i know i am FAT. but i think i'm a beautiful person, who is outgoing, in your face, and blunt. i get people saying SUCH negative things to me as well, asking HOW can you think you are SEXY, you are SO FAT. uhhh duhhh, it's OBVIOUS i am fat, but if i FEEL sexy, i am sexy. people judge too much on body type. but it's the way the media has shoved crap down our throats. one minute very thin is the mainstay of the bar society of beauty and other types are shunned, then someone will be 'pro fat' and then some will start shaming thinner people. guys are told that if you are tall and thin and not muscle bound, you aren't 'hot'. i'm fat and don't give a FUCK who likes it. it is what it is. i can't CHANGE the cards i was dealt, i just have to rock what i got.

People think that it's impossible to hate on people who are considered to look attractive by the media's standards. Thinness is one generally considered attractive feature. But that obviously doesn't mean that people aren't capable of being vicious towards thinner people. Some people don't realize this, because they think it's "funny", or they think that the kind of hate overweight people receive are worse. They think it's funny and ok to tell a thin person to eat a hamburger, but questionable to tell an overweight people to eat a salad (yes, I know that there are people who think that that's funny/ok too, obviously).
I've heard bigger people say that it's ok to bully thin people, because they're merely retaliating and giving back for all the bullying they've received. But that's not ok. You don't achieve anything by doing that. You only end up hurting people who don't deserve it, and in the end it doesn't solve the bigger picture. You just hurt more people.
People should learn how to accept all body types.

Because being skinny is the ideal standard of our society today, whether people want to admit it or not. Bigger girls are seen as unattractive and less accepted. So some people feel like it's okay to make fun or put down skinny girls just to make them feel as bad as the bigger girls.

I'm curvy but I have nothing against skinny girls. If they are healthy why do we need to bother?

This is just the same issuse like a lot of people think that it's okay to put down girls with big boobs to make the girls with small boobs feel better. Playing with someone's self-esteem isn't cool.

Because people think that skinny people can't be insecure, so they don't really care about the comments they tell them. I've been skinny/lean all my life, and I've always gotten comments about it, all of them coming from people that are either fat or out of shape.
People believe skinny people are 100% happy with their body and that no comment will hurt them, but it's not true. I wish I had more muscles, and I'm working on it, but just like it hurts a fat guy to make fun of their body, it also hurts a skinny guy.

This picture is a clear example. The fact that we glorify, or accept, fat, aka unhealthy, bodies, but criticize skinny, which is normally healthy, is a problem that we have.

When you say you are skinny, do you by any chance mean slim. Because there is a big difference between the two. When I think of skinny I think of a girl with no muscle or fat and is on the verge of anorexia. But slim sounds like the girl is lean with muscles/fat thus giving her a more pleasing and healthy look.

As for your question, what society view as beautiful has changed constantly over time. Hundred of years ago fat/obese girls were worshipped as beauty. Then it changed to slim girls, then it went to skinny girls, then it went to curvy girls, then it went back to slim and then again to skinny, and now its shifting back to what it was in the 50s which is thick/curvy girls like Marilyn Monroe was.
